It's Canada, I guess. We even had a little snow one day in October. And I was wrong, looks like it is sticking.

Uhm, because it's winter now, Lillikoi? That's usually when snow falls It didn't stick this time. It's just too warm (ca 4 C), so it's neither snow nor slippery. Phew! Slippery ice and snow is what I really hate about winter. And when it's really cold (like -10 C and colder).

Before Norway was christened, this time of year was when my ancestors celebrated Yule; jól in Norse and jul in contemporary Norwegian (as well as Swedish and Danish). the only Norwegian name for the holiday is jul, so the name is the same as it used to be way back in time. Interestingly, some our current traditions, like Yuletide singing and eating pork at Christmas, comes from the old Yule celebrations.
People used to go julebukk which is the same as the trick or treating you Americans do at Halloween, just that julebukk is done in the time between Christmas and New Year's Eve. That tradition is practically nonexistent nowadays. I haven't seen anyone go julebukk for the last 30 something years.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Christmas!
