I'm quickly starting to like Krabo before something bad happens.

Yep, slowly (at the risk of something bad happening). Like a snail that doesn?t know where it?s going. Finnish people take a lot longer to warm up to others, I?m sure you?re only very slowly starting to like me too. ;)

Don?t worry I?ll get there. Eventually.

As long as you don?t screw it up.

Lol at Riikka.

I don't find Finnish people hard to warm up to, but then I'm certified crazy. So we have that in common. :P

And it might kill Krabo to admit it, but I think he's quite fond of us lot. It's the Russian in him. Or the 'sentiment'. I get confused.

Allow me to welcome Riikka aboard.

Its freezing cold here at the moment and I've been sleeping a lot plus I can only surf at night rates until Tuesday or so, so that's why I haven't been around much lately.

Been enjoying checking out what everyone's been up to on here.

Thank you for remembering your manners enviro. I always forget.

It is nice to have Riikka here, and nice to see you back too, if only briefly for the next few days. :D

Aww, thanks guys! Now there are even more people I?m starting to like!

The Finnish side of Krabo will probably keep him from posting in this thread for a while though, at least until we?ve talked about other things long enough for everyone to forget that Moomingirl mentioned Krabo being fond of anyone. :D

But then again Moomingirl and Krabo seem to have something special going on, so maybe that will encourage him enough to declare his love for everyone?

Maybe?

Krabo just likes me because I am the only person he knows who is crazy enough to learn Finnish (complete coincidence, I started it just before I found WP).

Anyway, best change the subject quickly, so we don't scare him away for too long.

It's always nice to have new people pop into the thread, I hope you become a regular here Riikka. :D

By the way, that's a Moomin in Moomingirl's avatar, not an albino cow diving into a mud puddle.

If you don't know what a moomin is, just ask her to explain. It has nothing to do with Mormons.

I?m Finnish so I?m pretty well-acquainted with Moomins. :D I always thought of them as just a species of their own like any other species, until someone pointed out to me a couple of years back that they were indeed like white hippos. Since then I?ve had a slight existential crisis trying to decide if they are actually their own species or if Tove Jansson just made hippos albino and bipedal (which would still mean they?re hippos, just special hippos) and I?ve just been incredibly naïve thinking they deserved their own taxon.

Since then more people have been trying to ruin the Moomins for me for example by saying that Nipsu is in fact a dog of some sort. He isn't. He's just Nipsu. :hmph:

Nipsu a dog??

No, if anything I always thought he looked more like a tiny kangaroo. Here is a picture for anyone who doesn't know. By the way, in the English versions he is called 'Sniff'.

Riikka- regarding Moomin, lots of people who don't know the Moomins mistake him for a hippo. Here is the original story behind him:

"[Tove Jansson..] later said that she had drawn the first Moomin after arguing with one of her brothers about the philosopher Immanuel Kant. She sketched "the ugliest creature imaginable" on the toilet wall and wrote under it "Kant". It was this ugly animal, or a plumper and friendlier version of it, that later brought her worldwide fame."

What an interesting article, Mooms. I had no idea about the history behind the whole series.

I don't how she made a moomin from "the ugliest creature imaginable", though. It looks really cute ? like a white hippo with a long tail.

Hey Murihiku. :D

The original Moomin looked a bit different:

I certainly wouldn't have called him ugly though.

The history of the books and author are very interesting. I always figured that the fact she had such an unusual upbringing (very artistic) and the fact she was a lesbian at a time when it could not be clearly expressed (especially in childrens books) influenced her wide range of unusual characters, and the theme of acceptance of everyone, throughout her books. 8)

Oh, okay. Like you said, I wouldn't call that one ugly, either.

It actually reminds me of Thingee from when I was growing up back in NZ.

I had to look that one up. :D

Anyone else having problems with WP loading? I saw jk1 posted in the WP forum about it too. My pages are taking ages to load (sometimes 30-60 seconds). It's driving me insane. :x
