As Nidia came to, she tensed and started visibly, then eased back down. Her gaze darted quickly from the tape on her arm, at the injection and blood draw site, to Virgil's face. An odd, indeterminate expression passed over her own face for a split-second and was promptly banished. She continued to look at him, but placidly, as the drowsiness abated.

((Edited for tense -- whoops again. Hard to break the habit of RPing in the present tense. :) ))

"I drew some blood and tissue samples while you were asleep, I also measured your electrical activity. It's all been put in our database so you can use a keycard in the bunker. It doesn't matter which one you use - they read your electrical impulses and uses them to form a barcode on the end of the card." Virgil handed her a fresh keycard - it was black in his hands (meaning total bunker access) but turned blue in her hand for low clearance. "You can access the library, messhall, personal quarters area, the medlab, emergency exits and open the bunker door for five minutes at a time. It records everytime you use it and archives the information on the main computer."

"Very well." Saldana sat down on a bench, and fitted on the torso part of a HEATS armour suit. "Whilst you're doing that, I'll scout around the surrounding area in the Dune Buggy." When Virgil left, he fitted on the rest of the suit, and picked an M4-M203 Assault Rifle/w attached single shot grenade launcher, and also two M203 launched phosphorous grenades. He then took the keys from a workshop on sublevel 1, and went out through the blast doors, initially starting up the dune buggy and doing some spot checks.
The black dune buggy was based on Navy SEAL designs, sporting a minimal engine and very light framework, like a souped up go-kart with a military grade radio and a mounted light machine gun.

Sydney examined the multiscanner results that he obtained from the rabbit and the new arrival. Nidia, if he remembered correctly. The biometrics Virgil obtained for her passcard helped too. Other than a few ill effects from mild malnutrition, fatigue and near carbon dioxide poisoning, she seemed fine. But little Peter Rabbit had more than a fly on his nose. He was, to a degree, wrong about the disease. It wasn't just the T-Cells, it was the entire immune cell system, gone hyper. The telomere lengths were off the chart, even for cancer cells. The rabbit, however, may have been a false positive. Now that he came to think of it, they did loot the rabbits from a lab in the hours of panic before the bombs hit ((I want to give a slightly plausible reason why the rabbit in particular was vulnerable to the disease)), and God knew what sort of experimentation had been performed on it. But even so, this strange disease was frightening. The infection with the dog, combined with whatever the rabbit had been subjected to in the past, had conspired to make a virus that had leapt species.

((Sorry guys, I only woke up an hour ago, and I'm going out shortly. When I go, just leave me in the lab.))

Nidia's relief was so strong, she broke into wide smile. "You're serious, aren't you?" She laughed and turned the keycard in her hand, to examine it. "I can hardly believe it--thank you. Virgil, was it?" She rose to her feet and placed a hand on the cot, to steady herself. Resuming her customary seriousness, she promised, "You won't regret it, sir. I'll see to that. I won't be a dead weight--I'll help in whatever capacity I am able."

((I thought it was HEATS not HEARS, or are they two different things?))

Alan finished with his shooting and put the ammunition back in the armoury and his pistol back in his room. As he put the stuff up he thought to himself, I should probably bring up the sensors and visual equipment to the surface so we can moniter the outside. It will let everyone else do more important things and I don't have anything to do right now so this would prove to be an efficient use of my time.

Alan went to sublevel 3, to get the equipment. He put on a hazard suit and also brought along his pistol. He went through the decontamination chamber and the two blast doors and soon found himself in the outside world once again. He went about installing the sensors in areas outside of the warehouse. Alan also installed the visual eqiupment in areas that would allow the equipment to see much in the area around the warehouse. It took a while but eventually Alan finished. Now I just have to calibrate the equipment and it can be used. This will help us gain much knowledge of the outside world.

As Sydney waited for a genome sequencing to finish, he watched one of his DVDs that he brought into his bunker....

"If you have skills with growing food Sydney could use your help with the farming area but you'll need to talk him about that and right now he is in his personal lab. Only Sydney and I can open that door and I don't dare go in unless something important is up."

"Also, the Colonel may need help maintaining the armory and weapons but he is out to - checking on the nearby terrain and seeing if he can find a source of supplies we need. You don't look to computer smart but you think you can help Alan or I feel free to approach us - I do the software work on the bunker and Alan does the hardware stuff."

Virgil peeled off his lab coat and lit a smoke. "Your things should be in one of rooms in personal quarters - the keycard cannot open other peoples personal bedroom doors. Though of course your weapons have been taken and put in the armory."

((Ok, HEARS was a mistake on my part, it is HEATS.))

"Hello, glad to see you out here, Alan." Saldana was waiting in the dune buggy, which had been switched off while the Colonel had been waiting. He helped out with the calibration, and then started up the dune buggy when the equipment had been adjusted to requirement. He drove the buggy just out to the front of the warehouse doors, and shut them tight, waiting for Alan to man the machine gun on top. He had his M4 by him, as well as a pair of Binoculars. "It's safe to breathe the air here!" he shouted to Alan, after he had checked the geiger and air toxicity meter.

((Nice video QM, I was laughing all the way through.))

(The video was awesome. I wonder what show it was from.))

"It is?" Alan shouted back as he ran to man the machine gun. "I'm still keeping my gas mask on because there may be pathogens in the air!" Alan reached the buggy and got in the gunner position on the buggy and asked Saldana, "where are we taking this buggy?"

As Virgil spoke, Nidia nodded and made a mental checklist of the categories he mentioned. She raised a brow at his suggestion that she was computer illiterate, though it was undeniably true. Fulfilling her promise already looked to be more difficult than she had anticipated. She located her shoes and socks, and busied herself putting them on, as Virgil smoked his cigarette.

"I learn quickly," she finally said. "I'll have a look around." She moved toward the door, then paused, turning back to Virgil. "What... uh.... may I ask what sort of 'mutated resident' was here?"

((Video was from a British sitcom by the name of Bottom, I believe. ))

"Wise idea until we've got a full analysis of everything, I suppose. Well, we're going to recon and survey the surrounding area in a five mile radius. There is less fallout here, but we should be cautious at all times. I drew a map of the area that we're surveying, and I also have a backup map of the area in case we get lost. This place is easy enough to navigate if we keep near the roads though. First stop, a small petrol station one mile away." Saldana pushed his right foot on the accelerator, and kept to the windy road that went into the cold Evergreen forests. "Looks like it's going to snow." The colonel observed the clouds ahead as the buggy headed towards the forest at a steady thirty miles per hour. "Keep a watch out for anything that moves, it could be hostile."

"A rabbit we tested a disease on, we found the disease in a mutated dog and injected the rabbit with it. It causes massive growth in a matter hours - this room is fortifed and yet the rabbit damaged it badly. Luckily only small mammals seem affected. Ask Sydney for more info."

After he had finished briefing Nida Virgil headed back out to the messhall, opting to take the stairs instead of the lift. He needed the time to think and liked the exercise. The messhall was medium size cafeteria like room with nice sized kitchen and all the cooking implements that would be needed.

Pulling out some ham and cheese of out the refrigerator he made himself a nice rye ham and cheese sandwich. Sitting down in the messhall he rolled over the last few days in his mind and tried to analyze Nida - he had no trust in her. Luckily he had the Colonel go through her things and make sure there were no weapons she could get without getting higher access.

Eventually he became bored and put on some music in the messhall - enjoying Agalloch in the lonely room. The perfect music to the Apocalypse.

"Okay sir." Alan then but in a belt of bullets into the .50 cal machine gun. He looked around as the buggy moved through the forest. He was getting nervous as they advanced farther and farther away from the bunker.

((edited sentence 3. It said the location was a city. It is in the middle of nowhere and I goofed...deal with it.))
