People used Old Faithful as a washing machine during the 1800s. In the earliest days of Yellowstone National Park, people would put their laundry inside the geyser while it was dormant, and it would erupt with clean clothes.

The Navajo language was chosen to code U.S. military operations because it has no written form and is almost impossible for non-native speakers to learn. After the operation was declassified in 1968, the Japanese Chief of Intelligence admitted that though his army had been able to decipher many U.S. codes, they were never able to crack the Navajo code.

There’s a grammar rule that native English speakers follow without even realizing it. When describing something in detail, adjectives are listed in this order: opinion, size, age, shape, color, origin, material, purpose. So, while asking someone to hand you the ‘ugly little old rectangular brown Italian leather notebook’ may sound natural, asking them for the 'Italian old brown little rectangular leather ugly notebook’ sounds completely wrong- even if you can’t explain why.

The origin of the word “zodiac” can be found in the Greek “zódion” which originally referred to a “carved figure of an animal.” As “zóidakós kúklos” it referred to a “circle of carved figures” which represented the twelve figures or signs of the divisions of a band around the earth which had been described by the ancient Babylonians. From the Greek it became the Latin “zōdiacus” and the French “zodiaque” and English, as it has often done, took it from the French.

When you receive a major electric shock, it’s not the electricity that throws you across the room, it’s the force of your muscles contracting. Basically, you’re strong enough to instantly throw yourself across a room.

During a seizure, the jaws clench so hard that teeth can be broken.

One can tell that "Zodiac" is related to words like "zoo", and "zoology", that have to do with animals.

An elephant’s trunk contains over 40,000 muscles. The entire human body has fewer than 850.

The Aztecs were cannibals.

They dressed one of their goddess statues in the skin of a human sacrificial victim.

Kit Kats are made of Kit Kats. The manufacturers leave no Kit Kat uneaten, so every reject is mashed into a paste that’s used to fill the wafers. Because every imperfect Kit Kat was already filled with other imperfect Kit Kats, and some of the Kit Kats they’ll fill will also be rejected, every time you eat a Kit Kat, you’re basically eating layers of Kit Kats within Kit Kats within Kit Kats.

There is a muscle behind your knee called the popliteus muscle. Without it, you would be unable to bend/unlock your leg from a fully extended position . It is sometimes nicknamed "the key" for this reason.

The planet that Final Fantasy VII takes place on is never actually named. 'Gaia' is just a fan nickname, and the planet is always just referred to as 'the Planet.' [It's been confirmed by the developers that the planet isn't Earth, either.]

In 1980s Scotland, there were dangerous gang wars between rival ice cream truck drivers. The Glasgow Ice Cream Wars erupted when drivers began delivering other items with their ice cream to low-income housing developments, like groceries, toilet paper, and drugs and stolen goods. The scuffles over territory eventually escalated from violence and arson to murder.
