What's the matter with gluten? It's just a harmless, naturally-occuring protein.

Not if you suffer from gluten intolerance.

Gluten intolerance is BS.

Eh, maybe so, what do I know. It hasn't been one of my causes exactly... I've just had it explained to me in more detail lately. And I do feel kinda spaced out a lot, I just wondered.

Re: Gluten Intolerance in general: I agree, it's a protein we're naturally supposed to be able to digest; I think maybe the worry is either it's increasingly been modified in ways we can't process, or perhaps even more plausibly, we're getting too much pesticide residues of certain kinds in our wheat, and it's screwing us up little by little.

Re: Aspies: This is a different matter as it's not really the same as gluten intolerance at large; we supposedly have our own issue with it because of our brain physiology for some reason. Several knowledgeable people have been able to explain it to me in a way that made sense, so I keep an open mind that there might be some truth to it.

Not my biggest concern in life, just something I've been thinking about. :P

Stubbing your toe hurts, but have you ever stepped on a Lego?
Anyway, waffles and pancakes are great.

No. I've never stepped on Lego, but I have stepped on other small, hard plastic things. Have you ever gotten a metal splinter in your foot? That really hurts too.

Waffles with jam or brown cheese are great. As are pancakes sprinkled with sugar

Do you fold pancakes or fold them?

What the gl*ten is brown cheese? And just the idea of a metal splinter ...

I like sweet pancakes and savoury pancakes. And crepes, they're nice too.

^ Glad you liked them! :P

I roll them (like a Swiss roll). The pancakes we use here are large and thin and eaten for dinner, not like the smaller but thicker type used for breakfast in the US.
In my family we sprinkle them with sugar, others use berries, jam or even bacon.

Brown cheese is something that apparently only we Norwegians like. It's a cheese made from goat and cow milk, cream and whey.

I find it very tasty but most foreigners seem to think it's an acquired taste.

The metal splinter was courtesy of my father's sawing. Some splinters were left behind and I stepped on one. Painful as gluten.

What's the difference between pancakes and tortillas?

Pancakes are made from wheat flour, tortillas are made from wheat, maize or potato flour and are meant to have a lot of food inside. The taste will be a little different, pancakes are a little sweeter in taste, or at least the type we use are. It's also my experience that pancakes more easily will tear than a tortilla.
But they certainly have similarities.

To make it even better, we also have lompe and lefse here, which also are similar. Lompe is used with hot dogs and sometimes with cheese, and lefse is thicker and is used in a variety of ways.
