I was never very good at history at school. I was good with timelines but when it came to detailed essays I didn't do that well. Then again I was never that good at any subject at school.

U.S. History was my favorite subject in school. World History was my hardest subject, but I didn't exactly have a good teacher for that one. I would have done better now.

I've always liked European history. I just wish we had learned more about what daily life was like, because I find that more interesting than the big events. What was it like to live then? What would my life (possibly) have been like? I like listening to old people talking about the olden days. It's particularly interesting to hear about what it was like to live in Norway during the war as it's so far from anything I have experienced. That's been a bit on my mind this year as there has been lot of talk about WW2 ending 70 years ago in TV news and papers, and one short documentary series about daily life during the war, which left me hungry for more.
