It was a typo in a video game that was supposed to say "owned", but pwned kinda got a meaning of its own. Copy and paste from Wikipedia:

Pwn is a leetspeak slang term derived from the verb own, as meaning to appropriate or to conquer to gain ownership. The term implies domination or humiliation of a rival, used primarily in the Internet-based video game culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated (e.g., "You just got pwned!").

So do you say it like pawned? Otherwise it would be quite awkward to say 'pwhn-ed'.

It's pronounced like 'loaned' with a 'p'.

I used to read it as 'pewned', like 'strewn.' :lol:

Heh, this reminds me of the 'you learn something new every day' thread. I knew the meaning of pwned, but I have still read it as pawned :lol: Thanks for clearing that up. It makes more sense considering the origin.
