You already know that I think Laura's fun, and I commented on Rachel... the others are a good start. How awesome they are depends on what you do with them. Remember also that part of writing fiction is living with the fact that some will like a character and some won't. You might not even like all your characters and scenes, and that's cool too. I definitely don't like all my posts on our RP. :)

I don't know, Midnightstar16, but I see you are a Pokemon fan.

I am a fan of the Anime myself. I never went past Hoenn and Generation 3, but I think those first three were the best.

Good advice, thanks. One thing I am doing with these characters is basing them off of real people that I know. Mason is inspired by a friend I have and Caltain Plank is inspired by one of my brothers. Also, if it isn't obvious Mike is largely inspired by myself and my own struggles, ambitions, and flaws.

Thats so sweet! I diddnt need to make up new characters, since I didn't have anybody to base them off of, and for a time the characters of the game and my pokemon were my only friends. My cousin completely deleted my Frogadeir, and thats how I got that her Frogadeir died. Also, a certain, um, something happened that was so traumatic to me that I was mentally five years old again for a while, and that's how I got that she lost her memories. And it took me AGES to finish the game, but when I finally did, I was so sad that they can't do anthing other than stand around in Kiloude City or outside your house or somewhere else. I litterally still battle Calem every day, it's the least I can do for all he's done for me, even though he is just a video game character.

That's awful, Midnightstar. I can only imagine what it might be like to have only characters as friends and to suddenly feel like 5 years old. Hugs from far away, for what they're worth.

I don't understand what you said about not needing to create other characters. You did create other characters.

To both Midnightstar and Mikeman, I've never read about characters like yours, who embody the cliche, feel the fear and do it anyway. They fight their anxiety and willingly enter scary or dangerous situations. I have generalized anxiety disorder, and I'd like to believe that sort of triumph over the disorder is possible.

Um, thank you.... Any human characters, I meant.

And I think it is possible, even though I'm still having a hard time getting over that little incident from a few years ago that I mentioned.

Is it possible? We'll never know, because the people in dangerous situations probably wouldn't admit to GAD. Imagine being a cop, firefighter, soldier, or explorer, having GAD. I can't imagine what it would feel like, or how to deal with the most dangerous situations, when fear might turn to mindless fight/flight/freeze panic.

Sorry it took me over a month to respond to these, I didn't see these posts until today.

And also, Mike's world sounds pretty cool, even though the closest thing to scifi I've seen was an anime called Sword Art Online and I dont think that counts.

Either way, what did you think of everyone else?

Thanks. I made a point to make my si-fi world be actual science fiction and not science fantasy, the difference being that science fiction is far-fetched but believable. I have details like the Mars Olympics, a popular love song about an interplanetary relationship, fail compilations of people walking on the Moon for the first time, and although there are cool new technologies there is nothing that is too insane and unbelievable which

I think most of the characters in the RP are quite brilliantly played, especially Laura, Calem, Gristle, and Lilli.

That's very interesting and it's unfortunate that all that stuff happened to you. It's interesting how much of Laura's story is based on yours.

My si-fi universe actually has a rather interesting story behind it as well. When I was 6 I started obsessing over space travel and physics and that's when I began drawing a bunch of my rather crazy ideas based on my rather rudimentary understanding of physics. This is when I came up with the designs for the space carriers, particle cannons, cargo rockets, battle stations, wormhole jumpers, robots, and stuff like that. It started to evolve into an imaginary world where all these things exist, although the story wasn't very coherent. After a few years I started realizing that most of my ideas were impractical and I mostly stopped designing things. The name Mike came about because I have always disliked my actual name and I really like the name Mike, it's basically my official nickname at this point.

Skip forward 12 years, I figure out that role-playing is a thing and I needed to come up with a character. I remember this imaginary world and I decide to bring it back, playing as Mike. I went through and modify my ideas so they are more plausible and threw out the ones that are much too far fetched, replacing my previous impossible engine concepts with things like the hyperion drive which is like an improved ion engine. I created a coherent story by reevaluating the global consequences of releasing all those things into the world and doing what I did in my previous imaginary world, which turns out to be quite catastrophic. I create a MeagWatt 2.0 universe that's designed to be an interesting story that avoids too much deviation from real physics. I decided that Mike would have the same disorders as me and to explain how he designed so many things I made him an engineering savant.

The universe has been developing ever since, and I've even obsessed over it a few times. Even Nexus Station is heavily based off of the wormhole jumper stations from the original MegaWatt universe, the ship we go to orbit in is based on some drawings I made at age 8, and at age 7 or so I designed Sam who has only undergone a few minor changes. A random drawing I made of a carrier exploding became a terrorist attack in that universe that caused come major events. Other things I designed when I was quite young include two of the types of space fighters, Mike's home back on Earth, many types of rockets, the space suits used in that universe, and to some extent even Mike's robotic arm. I think that's part of why that universe is so interesting, so much of it came from the mind of a kid.

As you probably know from my forum signature, I have generalized anxiety disorder too and I also made Mike so that he has the same disorders as me. In other RPG's I have done I have always portrayed Mike as being very jumpy and easily scared, yet determined to get past it and rather conflicted. My anxiety used to be a huge problem but now it's actually not as bad as it used to be, one goal I have always had is to be able to get over my fears and be able to confidently go into difficult situations. One interesting thing is that I wasn't even really trying to project that onto Mike, it just kind of happened. I also made Mike asexual and aromantic before I realized that I actually am, which is certainly quite interesting.

All of my characters [Enye, Jian, Aelkai, and Ia] are based on myself as well as the characters in my current fantasy novel. Their childishness, weirdness, mischievous nature, and love of everyone [including cats] is exactly me.

I've really enjoyed the backstories of the game characters. I just jumped in, but it's clear that you all thought a lot about your original characters.

Mike, it's really impressive that you created such a sophisticated universe at such a young age. It's very awesome to have both creativity and a scientific mind. How did you come to learn about physics at all before age 8? What did you read or use to get to even a rudimentary level of understanding so quickly? Concepts like constants and equations and laws are pretty abstract for little kids usually, even if the kids are interested.

I have a rather unusual tendency of remembering a huge amount of what I read and hear people say, I don't really know why but it's certainly very convenient. When I was younger I was able to recall just about everything I had ever heard about space travel and physics even though it wasn't a lot, and it helped that I was obsessed over it. I remembered seeing that using centripetal force as artificial gravity is a concept that NASA is considering so I designed my ships and stations to work like that, I heard about concepts like negative energy and exotic matter that if harnessed could be used to open wormholes and power warp drives so I came up with ships that use that sort of thing, I learned about concepts for space suits that use elasticity instead of air pressure so I came up with my own version of that, and I also came up with some ideas that I know now are impossible like perpetual motion machines and engines that use no fuel. I knew hardly any about the math involved at the time. Many things like the politics behind the Great Solar War, the interiors of the ships, the exact timeline, and stuff like that were more recent additions to the universe when I overhauled it, I tried to find a good balance between staying true to the original and being realistic which I think I did rather well.

This is not to say that I'm not unusually knowledgeable about physics though. Just last week I taught my astronomy professor what the weak nuclear force is. I can easily monologue about physics and space travel for hours if I'm not careful.

I remember loads of stuff, mainly from reading and such, since I'm a visual learner, but I've got a full library of songs in my head as well.

Oddly, despite being so much like me, none of my characters in my epic fantasy novel or smaller fantasy novel have any sort of eye/vision issue.

Mike, that's really interesting about how you picked up bits and pieces and ran with them. It also makes sense how you didn't need the math to have fun drawing ships and stations and such.

Kuraudo, I've got tons of songs in my head too, even songs I hate but have heard way too many times. It's so useless, but there's something about so many melodies and lyrics that I can't get rid of them. :D

Midnightstar, do you have a favorite subject?

Ahh yes, the good old mental music library. I also almost constantly have a song playing in my head, the current one is We Don't Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth.

Hmm, I'm actually homeschooled (I dropped out mid 6th grade because of.. Eheheh, long story. ) but my fave subject now is english. I used to have an art class, and I still kind of do, it's just not school.

I'm actually really jumpy too, when my dad would come home from work and see that I'm completely oblivious to everything that doesn't have anything to do with what I'm doing, he would sneak up and scare the living daylights outta me.

A Garydos? I just came across everything apparently from last night.

Also, Cal is an actual character from Pokemon X, along with Tierno, Trevs, Shauna, Emma and Prof. Sycamore. If you play as a girl, then he'll be your rival. Also, I think it's a bit weird that all Trevs does in the actual game is stand around in Geosenge town and Laura had to go there to find him, even though in all of the mini stories I've written myself none of them would dare go anywhere near there.

I actually made my own manga about them and a bunch of mini-stories (a few even made it on this site!) but believe me, you dou not wanna see the manga. 8O

Team Flare, folks...

Malva, what are you doing, taking a bath in Monopoly money? :| 8O
