Yeah, didn't the word "Yankee" originate in New England?

New Englanders hate Yankees, especially the Yankees.

Yankees Hater

Go Red Sox!

How ass-backward can a person be?

The term 'Yankee' was invented by New Englanders to mean "New Englander" back in colonial times. It was derived from what the Indians called the Cap Cod Mayflower settlers: "Yenges" ( for "English").

I got a consistent 38 percent dixie on both. "Definitely Yankee" they said- but I was surprised to learn how 'southern' some of my speech is. Am from the DC area (close to the Mason-Dixon border), with parents from the Midwest.

Interesting.

you're a British person. And your speech got rated as being near dead-even between that of the two regions of the USA.

Not sure what that means. Maybe that British English is the common ancestor of both Yankee and Dixiespeak.

I got 50% Dixie, 50% Yankee.

Maybe because I've never eaten fried chicken, tried sweet tea, or used the word "y'all" before. Gosh, I'm such a southerner.

The funny thing is, my mom from New York is all about the "y'all." And trust me, "all o' y'all," "some o' y'all," and--my favorite--"every y'all" can all sound pretty bizarre in a Brooklyn accent.

Original yankee test:
76% Dixie. Your neck must be a just little rosy!

Advanced yankee test:
22% Dixie. You are a dandy Yankee Doodle.

Not so "advanced", I guess. I live in Louisiana.
