That's really surprising! Particularly the "sj" being used in Afrikaans. Norwegian is a North Germanic language, while German, Dutch and Afrikaans are West Germanic so it stands to reason that there are some similarities. The exact same word though...

our local art museum has one of those cycladic statuettes on display, an it always freaked me out as a kid to look at it, more than probably anything else.

even now it makes me uneasy.

i mean the ones of the entire body aren't as bad, i saw one where it is in a Thinker-esque position that was rather comical infact, but the busts, where is is a white, head shaped slab of stone with a nose..

My mother used to have masks on the wall at her house. Always freaked me out.

I looked up 'Cycladic Statues'......they look like modern art.

I am fascinated by Classical Greek and Roman and Egyptian statues, but those Cycladic ones I can live without.

maybe it's not modernish and their people actually looked like that.
