When he had finished up in the messhall Virgil set to do some cleaning. Pulling out the dry mop he slowly went over the concrete floor. It was naturally very clean but he did it as a matter of habit. The mopping relaxed him and let him think without the paranoia to edge in. When he had finished he put away in the mop in the closet and turned down the lights.

He tried to think of something to do but realized he'd checked everything so throughly there was no chance of breakage. Vigil went to a nearby terminal and input his codes to access keycard records. Syndey was still in his lab and hadn't left and Nida didn't show up as having used hers yet.

He couldn't even detect Alan and the Colonel so they were likely out, hopefully they would come back alive and with animal feed and fertilizer. Virgil ended up to chosing to wander for a while and listen to his music.

"Okay sir." Alan then but in a belt of bullets into the .50 cal machine gun. He looked around as the buggy moved through the ruined city. He was getting nervous as they advanced farther and farther away from the bunker.

((The bunker is nowhere near the city of Highmore, it's in the middle of nowhere, North Dakota.))

The buggy rumbled over a bridge, one thousand yards away from the base. Fallen trees littered the road, and the colonel had to drive round them. Further along, two deer were by the road, grazing around on what they could, and thankfully harmless. "Alright, we know that not all of them are going to attack the moment that we see them. We've learned something already." After that, there was an abandoned station wagon crashed into a tree, which looked badly beaten up, with smashed windows at first sight. The colonel stopped the vehicle. "Right, I'll go and investigate, you stay here." He ordered Alan to stay put, and picked up his assault rifle, weapon trained on the car. The windscreen had a huge hole in it, and a half devoured, armless corpse had tried to get out, which was evident in the way the driver's door had been pushed wide open, but the person inside had failed to escape. Gruesome. Saldana felt a little peaky at that, but kept his integrity. The front right passenger door was also open, and there were bullet holes in the side of the male corpse's skull, and also long dried up blood all over the place.
Interesting, someone tried to get here, the car was driving straight towards the warehouse, and someone escaped. The person didn't shoot themselves, someone else did it.

((I'm off for the night, see you all))

Virgil was somewhere on sublevel 2, it was it should be. Everything was empty and clean, soulless and pure. Somehow it drove Virgil mad in the back of his mind, this place could've held dozens of people easily and yet only four guys and a woman had managed to reach safety here. There were so many people should've been in here.

In the midst of his melancholy musings he heard an unfamiliar but not unwelcome sound.

Someone was buzzing at the bunker door, meaning someone had managed to make it in the warehouse and request bunker access. Virgil broke out in a massive burst of speed - disregarding all the pain in his leg and steaming onwards towards the bunker doors.

Flipping on the bunker door terminal he saw a familiar face that nearly made him break down in joy. "Virgie, you'd better let me before I beat down this door and come find you." He was completely sure he'd seen her die from a sniper's round as the five of them had attempted to flee for the bunker.

But yet her see was mouthing off at him in the way only she could, her chaotic mess of long red hair hanging over her right shoulder and her pair of earthy brown staring into the camera. Yanking out his keycard he swept it through in one fast motion and hopped up and down in anticipation of seeing his old lover.

The doors opened in there slow hesitant way and he saw.....

Nothing.

There was no one there, just the ramp down to the bunker, it's stark gray concrete mocking him and whispering insults to his sanity. Within seconds Virgil lost completle control, beating the wall and wailing her name over and over, eventually he collapsed and just cried himself dry as old emotional wounds bled like popped sores.

((This is the last you'll hear from me for today. Have control of my character as ye wish. I won't be on for a lot of the morning tomorrow too. But I may be on.))

"Hey Saldana?," Alan shouted as he watched Saldana look inside the derelict vehicle, "You find something yet? I'd like to continue the recon in a few minutes, this place is giving me the creeps!"
As he said that he heard a sound. Its sounded like something rushing through bushes. What was that?, Alan thought, probably nothing. But this is adding to my uneasiness...

Sydney completed the genome analysis. Lots of abnormalities, but there was too much data to really analyse properly. He ran a comparison program for proteomic differences between the dog and the rabbit, as well as original genomes. He then patched into the comms system and checked the cameras. Virgil was crying outside the doors. Hmmm. He then clicked through. No sign of Alan and the Colonel. They must be outside. Nida was in the medlab, staring at the devastation. Sydney decided to join her.

Virgil slowly picked himself up off the ground, his whole body and mind ached in pain. He'd thought he'd buried this demon months ago, the memory of those he lost in the blast. Especially her, she'd meant the world to him and he never recovered from losing her.

Checking himself over he was glad to find no bones broken, just bleeding knuckles and a horace voicebox. Sure he wouldn't lose it again Virgil started towards the medlab to get treatment for his injuries. As he went along he did everything in his power to block out her memory.

After a brief exploration, Nidia had found herself drawn back to the medlab, Virgil's story of the rabbit still weighing on her mind. Truth be told, this lighter and more fantastic worry was a welcome distraction from the memories of the events leading up to her departure from her Uncle's safe house. Even now, with just the passing thought of him, she blanched and felt bile threaten to rise. She was staring at the wall, deep in thought, when the medlab door opened behind her.

The hallways were starting to grind into him, he was starting to see old friends just in the corner of his eye and just behind corners. He was losing it again, the old bad days were coming back to haunt him.

When he finally reached the medlab he took out some disinfectent and poured it over each of his knuckles and wrapped them in gauze. Then trying to hide his pain he tried to make small talk. "Suprising what a mutated bunny can do."

Misunderstanding Virgil's comment, Nidia's eyes widened as she stared at his bandaged hands.

"You mean there's another one of those things wandering around in here?!"

And there I was, weaponless, ambling down the hallways, she thought.

"No, that thing was the only one. It did all that to the lab in the span of five hours. I did this to my self."

Pulling some Aspirin out of a drawer he added. "But we have organs from the mutated dog in some jars around here if you want to see them and Sydney taped the autospy."

"I' don't think she's that morbid, Virgil." said Sydney as he strode in. "Besides, an autopsy video is not exactly something you can sit down with a bowl of popcorn..."

"True, at least she knows about this mutation now. It could save her life." Popping double the regular dose of aspirin he added "These things can be violent if hungry, the dog tried to rip up the Colonel and the bunny was so scared it tried to kill us. Basically if it has extra eyes or ears run like hell or unload on RPG - 7 on the f****r."

Nidia was in the midst of a wordless nod at Virgil's suggestion when Sydney strode in. She vaguely recalled him as one of those present when she told the story of how she'd come to arrive at the bunker.

"One needn't be morbid to have an interest in such things," she said, slowly. "But I'm not familiar with that sort of procedure, so I'm afraid it might be lost on me." She lapsed into an uncomfortable silence.

"No need to know anything except the things grow lots of extra organs of all kinds and they are nearly impossible to kill with firearms. I wanted to try an RPG - 7 on the bunny but we had to be humane with the poor thing."

Rolling his arms in the sockets he tried to hide the obvious pain in his hands. "Well, glad to have you around. It's been two years since I met someone new."

"Same. Well, at least it has been that long since any civilized sort of meeting." Her posture relaxed a bit under the welcoming compliment. She decided not to ask after his knuckles, supposing that Virgil would volunteer the details if it was something he wished to share.

"It's good to be here." Looking toward Sydney she went on, "You've known each other since long before any of this started? It's an incredible piece of work, this place. It..." she trailed off, as if editing out an insensitive comment before it came to be. She patted a loose strand of hair back into place and folded her arms in front of her. "Well, it is."

"It was the most advanced bunker on Earth at the time of Apocalypse - many of technologies inside wouldn't even be in the President's bunker. The Keycards are the crowning achivement of the bunker - it took three years for Sydney and I to get them to work right and we had no help with them."

Virgil could feel his mind slowly caving in again, his memories of loved ones was tearing him apart on the inside. His rant felt hollow and unnatural to him, not a patented Virgil output. Suddenly Virgil felt himself having a profound sense of aloneness.

"Sydney, can we talk alone in your lab? It's a personal matter."
