Now I even think of myself as 'Mooms', I hear it so often.
I can relate!
I've been part of various online communities for long enough to have a few nicknames I respond to like my own name.
If you were walking behind me on a crowded sidewalk, and you shouted any of the following names, I would turn around and answer you without thinking twice about it:
- "Tosh" ...short for Toshiba_286, my old United Devices cancer research forum name (the forums don't exist anymore). I named myself after my dad's first laptop.
- "Scythes" ...my main World of Warcraft character's name. I played for 4 years, and helped manage the same guild for most of that time. I was kind of a fixture there, and on my server, and lots of people would greet me by that name, both by typing in game and on our voice server. Scythes is the plural of scythe, that blade on a pole for harvesting grain, which Death carries with him all the time. I had originally wanted to name my character Vash, after Vash the Stampede, one of my favorite anime characters of all time. Vash was taken, so I tried to name my character (a warrior) after Vash's brother, Knives. Knives was taken, so I tried a less common plural weapon name, Scythes. That one was all mine. It subsequently became popular on most other WoW servers; I can neither confirm nor deny that I had anything to do with that.
- "Veggies" ...short for "EatYourVegetables", my handle on another game I currently play. I also respond to "Eat" and "Veggematic".
- And of course "Theta". I've been around here long enough to respond to that too.
I'm just as happy to be called any of these as my own real name.
