Turkey doesn’t have enough tryptophan to make you drowsy. If it did, you’d get tired any time you eat a turkey sandwich. Eggs, cheese, spinach, and bacon all have more tryptophan per serving than turkey, which contains the same amount of tryptophan as chicken does.

In India, "the Emergency" refers to a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had a state of emergency declared across the country. For much of the Emergency, most of Gandhi's political opponents were imprisoned and the press was censored. Several other human rights violations were reported from the time, including a forced mass-sterilization campaign spearheaded by Sanjay Gandhi, the Prime Minister's son. The Emergency is one of the most controversial periods of independent India's history.

In WWII an allied sonar buoy placed in the Bay of Biscay off of Nazi occupied France detected a submarine, and alerted the RAF which bombed and sank what was assumed to be a German sub. It turned out to be a Japanese submarine carrying cargo (mostly aluminum ore) for Germany from the Japanese occupied part of the world in east asia and the western pacific. It had gotten all of the way across the length of the Indian Ocean, and gone the whole length of Africa, and the South Atlantic, half way around the world, and gotten into French waters only to be sunk dozens of miles from its destination in Nazi occupied France. A long way for nothin'.

"Blood is thicker than water" originally meant the opposite of what most people think today.

The "blood" was meant as the blood spilled by comrades in battle or the making of a "blood oath", and had nothing to do with the blood-line of your family.
The "water" represented family, from the concept of a pregnant woman's "water breaking" when the baby is due (there's no consistent explanation for what the "water" represents in the modern version.)

So the original meaning was something like; "People who choose to come together to fight for a common cause are more important than the family which you did not get to choose."
