At least the Beast of Gevauden had the good sense to focus his(?) attention on French peasants and farm animals, and not over-ripe shark meat.

Proves that the French, even their animals, have discerning palates!

Let me remind you that the French invented the 10-day week so that more and more tax money could be extorted from the poor peasants' back bones.

AND the deliberate disregard of the French government to the depredations of the B of G caused much political upheaval when the seriousness and length of the situation became widely known.

Porphyria is widely considered to actually be what people were suffering from who were, in the past, thought to be werewolves or vampires.

If Martin Luther were alive today, he would have no problem understanding the dialect known as Pennsylvania Dutch, since that was the dialect of German spoken in the Palatinate region of Germany.

The Ghost and the Darkness, a film written by Oscar winner William Goldman, was based on the real story of two lions who terrorized workers who were building a road and rail line through Africa. The lions were larger than normal and unlike most lions, still hunted when full, and extremely aggressively.

Like the beast of wherever, that Sylkat mentioned, these lions 'did not behave like normal' lions. According to witnesses, it was as if the lions were on a mission to stop the work.

Their bodies were stuffed (taxidermy) but it was botched so the resulting lions are much much smaller than those two enormous lions actually were while alive.

They were the last of the Sabretooths.

Sort of like Grendel....the last of their kind, killed by those who were taking over the Earth.

Though I do not think that Sabretooths were in Africa.

In Alfred Hitchcock's move Psycho, the stabbing sounds in the shower scene were made by stabbing Catawba melons.

Francis Poulenc's opera, Les Dialogues des Carmelites, is based on a play by the same title by George's Brenaros. It is a through-composed work, meaning there is no set arias and recitatives. It is one of those works that "grabs you by the throat, slams you against the wall and doesn't let you go until the guillotine comes down on the protagonist's head, at which point the opera ends."

Every person alive drops about 1 pound of weight each night while they sleep, just from the fact that the O2 they're inhaling is atomically lighter than the CO2 they're exhaling.

The CO2 is a byproduct of their metabolism, so this actually does remove mass from body tissue in a round-about way. We of course regain that mass as a result of meals during the day.
