Dockyard.

[img][495:343]http://www.thedockyard.co.uk/images/ZZ_1158237412_Gannet_before_restoration.jpg[/img]

P.S. Some problems with WP not displaying pictures are solved simply by adding the image size tag. For example, the dockyard image above has width=495 and height=343. After the opening [img] tag I inserted [495:343] (no space character on either side of it) and that's it. Price is that the annoying text Picture resized appears below the image. And yes, there are notorious cases like Cornflake said with which nothing helps.

Ooh, interesting - I didn't know an unnecessary size tag can force some to work. Must give that a try next time! (which probably won't be too far away)

^^^ The size tag trick works for most cases. Even if you get an error message (other than Error in posting), the image will be there. You have to leave the thread and go back to Off the Wall, then from there go back to the thread where you posted the image. Voilà! The picture is there.

The problem I had was that I was getting the 'Error in posting' message. Also, how do you know what dimensions the size tag should be? And where within the [img] tags do you put it?

For google search results, the required dimensions are readily visible if you're using Firefox. Just click on the image. Or, sometimes you have to right-click and then choose View Image Info. -- Place the size tag something like this, [img][400:300]http://www%20...[/img]. If you're unsure, go to the fairy post above and examine its structure as if quoting it, just hit the Quote button, and observe what is revealed.

Or, click the quote button on the failing post, copy the image URL then paste it into a new browser window and see that it displays Ok. Now use the browser's "back" button to exit the quoted post display then click the browser's page refresh button: voilà, the embedded image displays!
It's like you have to access the image URL by some other means and once that's been done, the original embedded image will now display.

The resizing tag is useful to properly rescale images that would be distorted by bugs in the forum software's automatic resizing.
I've been using a maximum display size of 800x600 so to calculate the figures to plug into the resizing tag, divide the longest edge by 800 then divide the shortest edge by the number obtained. After this, make the longest edge 800.
So - for an image at 2930x1783 (much too large to be displayed correctly): 2930/800=3.66 and 1783/3.66=487 therefore the required resizing tag numbers are [800:487]
This is useful to avoid those horribly stretched images I see - and just can't leave uncorrected...
But where possible, it's better to find an image that actually is no larger than 800x600 because it will load faster than some huge image which is simply rescaled for display purposes.

Meanwhile...
Hatchling.

^ that seems horribly convoluted. I'm looking forward to things getting a little less buggy here one day. Perhaps.

I know what you mean about those stretched images. It drives me nuts too.

One way or another it's a bit of a mess, posting images. I suspect there will be dancing in the streets once it's all finally resolved.
