^ I have no idea if it's sold abroad. From what I hear, it's unusual to like it if you didn't grow up eating it.

okay, I just did a search and found that brunost is sold in at least 3 countries (Canada, USA and Australia), under the name Ski Queen.

Krabo, I don't see why you wouldn't get a chance at some point to pop over the border and get a sample of Gudbrandsdalsost G35. Personally I recommend Tine, and not Synnøve.

lol while searching this, I found this site which sells Norwegian food to Norwegians abroad. If anyone is curious about some of the stuff we eat, you can take a look at their products.

I've definitely heard of gjetost, just not sure if it was a Scrabble word or in the culinary sense...

It can't be that dissimilar to ricotta or even Gouda sweetmilk: I would imagine if you like those you'd like the Tine?

I wonder if it was named after Marit Bjørgen. :chin:

^ I have no idea why they picked Ski Queen, Krabo. I tried googling it, but didn't find the answer.

I had no idea 'gjetost' was a Scrabble word! 8O
Gjetost is a rather old-fashioned name, by the way. Most people in Norway today would say 'geitost' or 'brunost'. My grandfather said gjetost. It's from Danish, I guess.

I've only had Gouda cheese on pizza (which was good), and I've never tried ricotta, so I can't say if they're similar. Both ricotta and brunost are whey products. I was very surprised some months ago when I found that brunost was a whey product and not a real cheese! I just found out that Amazon sells Ski Queen. That's a safe place to get it for those who wish to try it.

8O Wine and brunost?? :?

Hey Skilpadde,

Norwegian was released today on Duolingo. I did the first two lessons, lots of fun! :D

Thanks for posting that, Skilpadde!

Years ago a friend of mine whom I've since lost contact with, (a very fast runner) went to Norway as part of the South African diplomatic staff there and met and married a Norwegian lass while there. :D

^ooh, I'll have a look at that series later Skilpadde, thanks. I've had a week from hell, so I need to zone out for a day or two before I explode. I'm looking forward to doing a bit more Norwegian. Probably not too much, or it will interfere with my Finnish. But I find Duolingo sooo much easier than other methods. And Norwegian is a breeze compared to Finnish. :P

YW, I was hoping you might find it helpful. Each episode is about 3 minutes, so it's manageable and doesn't just drown you in way too much info.
Huh, now you've made me a bit curious about how Duolingo works...

Of course it is! Anyone would see that. Right, Krabo? :P

I'm sorry your week was so bad. TGIF. Zone out and relax and take good care of yourself.
and enjoy these dogs

Just wondering if Duolingo can squeeze Danish into 3-minute episodes since it takes 3 minutes to learn to pronounce "ja" :chin:

 Maybe, if it's one word per episode. :P

Sooo excited. I've done the first five or so units of Norwegian on Duolingo. I just did animals, and rather fittingly crabs and turtles were in the same lesson.

Jeg har en skilpadde. Krabben spiser.

You can't believe how excited I was when I first saw Skilpadde come up.

:D

Congratulations! Soon you'll be able to read comics and cartoons in Norwegian, which could be much fun.
