Famous children’s author Roald Dahl was surrounded by his family when he died. His last words were almost, “You know, I’m not frightened. It’s just that I will miss you all so much” -but he fell unconscious for a time, a nurse came in to ease his passing by injecting him with morphine, and when the needle pricked his skin, he muttered “Ow, f***!” just before dying.

CEDAR [Computer Enhanced Digital Audio Restoration] was the first real-time digitally implemented single-ended noise reduction unit, specializing in broadband noise removal, phonographic click and crackle elimination. in its original form, developed at Cambridge university, it was installed on a top-of-the-line Macintosh PC with special sound card, and worked in real time, not requiring hard drive space, dirty input=clean output. this was developed in the early 80s, as part of a Cambridge university initiative at improving the restoration of archival phonographic recordings, over what the traditional analog methods could do, with a first public prototype for demo purposes released in 1985, and the first commercial rack-mounted units released in 1988. as a long-time user of these things, I can tell you they work very well!
