I think the concepts of love and hate themselves are opposites, but they can both be present at the same time. ie you can love someone in one way, but simultaneously feel hatred for them. Although maybe 'hatred' is a bit strong.

Fair enough, like I could hate someone for being a libertarian but be their friend at the same time?
