"Oh, dear, talking to thin air and getting replies? The first and second signs of madness. Tell me, dear Virgil, are you looking for hairs on the palm of your hand? Are you finding them?"

"Sydney, it might just be aggravating the situation." Saldana looked at the contraption on the reactor control panel, and then at the blast doors which lead to the reactor itself. "Damnit, please stop this madness."

"Well, me and Saldana where doing some exploring around the bunker, it was during this that we both recieved a message from Sydney that he was trapped by Virgil and was about to be killed by Virgil. So we headed back to the bunker and we tried to rescue Sydney and I took a detour because I didn't have a weapon so here I am. And your version of this chaotic time?" Alan said in a scared tone of voice.

"Nope, and I offically declare this s**tshow OVER!"

Pressing a smallish blue button on the console he had a massive smile.

"Get ready for the end!"

The core suddenly made a massive grinding noise.

BUT

Nothing happened - the reactor went on.

"Worked out just how I wanted it! You fell hook line and sinker! These controls are completely dead! The diagnostic rendered them useless!"

Virgil smiled widely and laughed.

"You my friend are one stupid ass f**k."

"So, what was that little charade for, hmmm?"

Sydney stepped back out into the corridor.

"Hmm? Well? You truly are insane, Virgil. You just will not admit it."

"No, it was to lure you out inyo defenceless postion. It worked perfectly because you are seriously arrogant. The second I ruined the explosives you thought I'd lost it. My friend, never ever count your eggs before they hatch."

Picking up his shotgun he pointed it at Sydney's legs and shot. Knocking him off his feet.

"Your lucky that was a rubber slug buddy. Switched them out in the armory."

"That couldn't have happened." She shook her head, and regretted it, as the pounding started up again. "Virgil was with me until you showed up. He says Sydney's the one to be after. ...You're bleeding all over. Want to stop?" She began to edge toward him, cautiously, not rising to her feet.

In retaliation, Saldana shot Virgil's hand, and punched him unconscious. He then ran up to Sydney, and tried to help him.

Pulling out the DEW, he clicked it to the 'Kill' stting and aimed it at Virgil. The Colonel looked at him, dumbfounded.

"I will tell you, Colonel, that Virgil has always wanted to kill me. He's delusional. And I'm no good to you as I am now."

He then turned the DEW and pointed it at his own chest.

"Considering my own usefulness has ended, I suppose I'd better remove myself. Roll over, roll over, so they all rolled over and one fell out...."

He pulled the trigger, and he screamed as his body flared from positive to negative, his skeleton showing through as he howled in pain, then slumped, the smile still on his face....

"No!!" The colonel kicked the weapon out of Sydney's hand, but it was too late. "Alan, Nida, get down here right now! And bring two stretchers!"
