LOTR was good, I thought that Harry Potter was crap after the first 2 films.

It is true that films never do a book true justice. They always leave out something.

The best two adapatations (besides LOTR) ever were Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984 version) and Casino Royale. The former was a fairly faithful adaptation in terms of tone, setting and storyline, and pulled very little punches. Casino Royale is the only movie I ever have considered to be superior to the book.

Tom Cruise vehicle The Firm (1993), based on the John Grisham novel, had a better ending than the book.
