a century ago was so reductive, after all no puters or tv or microwave ovens, no a/c in the summer heat, scratchy 78 rpm records the only music available in 3 minute chunks. so 2020, as bad as it was.

my dad useta work in one of those supposedly air-conditioned movie theatres, it was a room the side of a locker room shower with showers of water dousing curtains of fabric with a large fan at one end forcing hot air through to cool the air down and humidify it [only works in dry climates, NOT in NYC]. it worked after a fashion, just like today's swamp coolers do in places like arizona.
