btw Blabbs I tried the antenna. There was no sound at all, not even static. It was plugged in.

i have a 40 year old clock radio, the analog kind. it died several times but via kinetic recalibration [basically slapping it around, sometimes flipping the tuning dial and am/fm switch back and forth], it revived. 
last screwdriver i had made me wish for just a 7-up and orange juice.
