Yep....Crusoe was definitely prior to Pamela.

D.H. Lawrence. He's a modernist sort with lots of clarity. He experiments----but he's still accessible.

Biographies by a small margin. There's more opportunity for objectivity in biographies.

I agree about Biographies.

Flaubert for enjoyment, Goethe for substance.

Aristotle, or Socrates (as written down by Plato)?

I find Flaubert insufferable. His prose is beautiful but his characters make me want to hurl.

I love Goethe.

Socrates. I'm a Platonist.

Wilkie Collins or Sherlock Holmes?

Never even heard of the first person----but Sherlock Holmes is an absolute institution.
