I'm sure Alan Turing would have had a crack at solving the key if given the chance...

It's possible that there is no key. The whole text may be nonsense or artificial language mastered by a single person.

You mean someone with a mind like Tolkien who invented a unique language of his own?

Making up languages and codes can be fun, but as no-one apart from the inventor (myself, in some cases) can understand them, you can't communicate with them.

There are folk who learn Elvish, Klingon and other fictional languages. But your opportunities for conversation with others will be somewhat limited!

I'll set my alarm. :P

@ enviro. Yes, indeed. Just looking at the pages of the Voynich manuscript kind of reminds me a bit of some of the map pages that Kip posted once. It reminds me very much of someone with a special interest in languages and their own invented worlds.

Did you know that Tolkein partially used Finnish as an inspiration for Elvish? 8)
A Klingon course is in progress on Duolingo. Sadly Finnish is not there yet. It's a sore point, as I badly need it.

My sleep schedules are always all over the place, but this one is annoying: I wake up 3-4 hours after going to sleep, feel tired but can't go to sleep. zzzz...
Maybe I shouldn't be posting lol

That was my thought too actually.

Likelihood is good that it's artificial, but it should still be possible for someone equally skilled to decipher it. The video says a professor by the name of Stephen Bax (anyone else think of Stephen Baxter? ) has a plausible decoding. We'll see, I guess.

The Voynich manuscript has drawings of non-existent things, so it's likely a piece of fiction. Maybe the author was making a mockumentary about Atlantis or something like that.

I didn't know that Tolkien was inspired by Finnish. The text in the manuscript looks a bit like Elvish to me. No, I don't know Elvish or any other artificially constructed language, it's just somewhat reminiscent of things I've seen on LOTR products.
It sure is fun to fantasize and speculate about things like the Voynich manuscript though. :D

Unexplained mysteries, and speculation on them, are one of my favourite things. 8)

Klingon is more widely spoken in the universe than Finnish.

No, but it gets them a lot more free advertising than Finnish would.

Only really weird people decide they want to learn Finnish for no apparent reason. :P

Really weird people live in places where Finnish is compulsory.

The difference is, you didn't get a choice. I actually chose to be this crazy. 8)

Mine too :D I've always loved speculating and fantasizing about such things, and reading (or these days listen to YouTube videos) the theories and speculations made by others.

I also enjoy what if scenarios (both alternate history and future possibilities).

Of course, Finnish might be the biggest unexplained mystery ever! :P

Likewise. There's an interesting series of documentaries in YouTube called UFOs over Europe. It has subtitles in Portuguese and after watching 2 or 3 episodes, I started to read them while listening to the English speaker.

Ever heard of the Scole experiment, regarding afterlife? You two might find this one-hour-and-a-half documentary interesting.

Dear Moomingirl and Skilpadde, if you are really into unsolved ancient mysteries, Google 'Puerta De Hayu

Marka'.....it is delightful and some of the New Age and UFO theories about it are lots of fun!

It reminds me a bit of the entrance to Moria, except there's no pool in front of the doorway, inhabited by the tentacled Watcher...
