^ Sheesh, I didn't do any studying at all, yesterday. I've already started getting emails from Memrise telling me to stop slacking off.

8O Real Cockney is far more interesting than movie Cockney, even if Audrey Hepburn spoke the latter.

I commanded the Scots today and defeated the Vikings. Then William Wallace told me to stop slacking off, and go conquer Northumbria.

@ Murihiku - I've taken to ignoring my Memrise emails and they are getting insistent! I'm too busy trying to finish my Italian 'tree' on Duolingo. I should have it completed by the end of next weekend, provided I don't hit anything too difficult. Once I've done that it will be back to the Finnish study, which has been sadly neglected in the last couple of weeks.

@ Theta - I am one of Audrey Hepburn's biggest fans, I think she is an amazing, talented, and beautiful woman. But her 'cockney' accent was pretty bad. I thought that she would have a good ear for accents, as she spoke at least four languages fluently. She certainly did not manage cockney well.

Dear Moomingirl,

Did you know that 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' was written about and for Marilyn Monroe?

Truman Capote, though a good friend of Audrey Hepburn's, wanted Marilyn to play Holly Golightly.

Did you know who wanted VERY much to portray Eliza Dolittle in the film of 'My Fair Lady'?

Elizabeth Taylor!

Seriously!

Dear Sylkat,

I did know the bit about Marilyn Monroe. In the original book, Holly Golightly was quite clearly very close to being (if not actually) a hooker and also probably bisexual. The character had to be watered down a lot for Audrey Hepburn to consider taking the role. I do love her in it, but it is nothing like the original book. Even as Audrey's biggest fan, I have to say that Marilyn probably would have played the original role (as it was written in the book) very well.

I did not know that Elizabeth Taylor wanted to play Eliza Doolittle, though. I always enjoy your Old Hollywood trivia, thank you. :D

Oh, yay, smilies are working again. Are italics? It would seem so. 8)

It's noteworthy that Audrey Hepburn wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award for her role in My Fair Lady. (Stan Holloway was but didn't win.) Audrey was in fact not much of an actor. She just happened to be the most beautiful woman of all times.

She played herself - beautiful, regal and funny - very well in many films.

Don't forget she won an Oscar for Roman Holiday, a Tony award for the play Ondine, and I think she was nominated for an Oscar for The Nun's Story too. 8)

Guess who wanted the George Peppard role in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'?

Tony Curtis! 8O

And I nominate you two potential winners in the winning thread. We all know, however, what will happen.

Tony Curtis? Oh no, I don't like that at all. I liked George Peppard very much in the role.

Guess who the first choice was for the William Holden role in 'Sunset Boulevard'?

Montgomery Clift!

I think he would have been wonderful!
