Agreed! I remember we were taught about the French revolution in junior high. The chapter started with rolling heads, and that certainly caught our interest. I think that was the one lesson where everyone paid attention! The teacher also showed us headlines from French newspapers from the era, and they started by talking about Napoleon as "the beast from Corsica" and the closer he got to Paris, the more polite they referred to him, until he was His majesty the emperor or or something to that effect!

I just finished a book on Marie Antoinette. Now I'm reading one on Napoleon.

I hope KyleK didn't go through with it. . .

Me too, Kyle. He hasn't been back since. I hope he's okay.

Marie Antoinette's son, that tragic little prince: what they did to him......
One of the saddest lives in the history of European royalty.

Upon Louis XVI's execution, the prince was declared Louis XVII by the royalists. He died at 10 in 1795. That's why when Louis XVI's brother came to the throne after the fall of Napoleon, he was Louis XVIII.

There was also English Boy King Edward V and his brother Richard, Duke of York, sons of Edward IV. They were shut in the Tower by Uncle Richard III in 1483 and never seen again. The best evidence points to murder by Richard.

When repair work was done in the Tower of London, in the 1960's, two children's skeletons were found under a stone staircase.

They are considered by most people to be the remains of the little princes.

I love Shakespeare's Histories, especially Henry V and Richard III.

Richard III was one of the set-texts for our English Lit 'O' Level class in the 1970s. I can still remember large sections of several speeches, though I've never re-read the play. For some reason the bit where King Richard sends someone to get him some strawberries from the Bishop of Ely's palace sticks in my mind....

Still no sign of the other Kyle. . .

I love Henry V's St. Crispin's speech, especially the 1989 movie version. So rousing. 8)

So brilliant, you could say it twice! :) :P

He should have gotten the Oscar for that role. Director, too.

There was a young Christian Bale in the mix, too.

Yep. He's there all right. Still a teenager in 1989.
