Well, I'll reach 10,000 pretty soon. Will that do?

Riikka, don't be too self concious. I am just stunned at how well you Finnish people learn English. English people are notoriously bad at learning foreign languages. I don't know what they do at our schools to make it so terrible. I was excited about learning languages when I went to secondary school (there's the first problem, they don't start teaching us until we are 12) and they even managed to beat the enthusiasm out of me. After five years of German and two years of French I learnt almost nothing, and it took years to get my enthusiasm for languages back. It seems like such a systemic failure.

Theta, sorry no-one commented on your '17' songs. I guess they just get written about because it is that very young / just turning adult stage that kids aspire too, and adults look back on with nostalgia.

And good morning everyone.

Actually, the 'Dancing Queen' video was so depressing to me; Agneta and Anni-Frid's lives turned out so sad.

I'll have to look that up. When I can.

http://tvnz.co.nz/technology-news/spark ... rs-6074079

Internet keeps going on and off. I can't get through one of my language lessons without it dropping out. Even the buttons on this site didn't load, I had to guess which box with "?" Was the "reply" button.

If I'm not around as usual you will know why.

The buttons fail to load occassionally for me, too.

"Why Does it always rain on me? Is it because I lied when I was 17?"

this one was my favorite. (i did listen to it!) love the music video too. lovely landscape.

i liked the ladytron one too, that girl in all black is real cute.

@Krabo when you hit 10,000 soon you'll be the 78th or so member of WP to do so. out of 88,195. :jester:

...but i'm catching up to all of you.

I think you have good taste, my friend. :D

I don't know much else by Travis, but I've liked that song for a long time. I do know more about Ladytron and I think they're awesome.

I know Sinatra kind of, but I've never been too keen on his vocal style, and I don't know Abba very well. Somebody commented that the two girls ended up having very sad lives, which grieves me.

Starflyer 59 is the other band in that group I really listen to, and they are a very specialized genre ("Shoe-gazing" of a particular sort), so I don't expect them to always catch on with people.

I do this sort of thing sometimes, and people probably wonder what the heck I'm doing... it's never to mock or anything like that, although I can be a little mischevious without cluing anyone in first to what I'm doing. I like to have some subtlety sometimes. :P

Can't remember what other than you being 17 got me thinking about how many songs there are on the subject, but I was myself surprised to see just how far the music world has taken that. 8O

Ok, going to go find the girl in all black now, I forget who it was.

Oh wait, you mean the lead singer?? I'm dense, but yes, I agree. There were actually two girls in all black singing, standing next to each other. The other is from Romania or somewhere, I believe.

Or maybe you mean the schoolmistress?

If you think you might like them as a band, may I recommend their songs "Ace of Hz" and "Destroy Everything You Touch."

thank you. 8)

that music video reminded me of some of the stuff the Icelandic group Múm likes to do, sort of like this one:

this one is nice, but i don't get that last tooth spitting part...

i just wish it would rain on me, if it doesn't rain anywhere else. help this awful drought!

yeah, Theta, the ones that appear at 1:06. both of them are real cute. :drunken:

That first Mum video was perhaps the most disturbing thing I have ever liked to listen to, especially as I began to be able to tell what the lyrics were. 8O

In general though, I like delightfully-weird music. 8)

The 2nd song actually reminded me of Starflyer 59 a lot. :D

I clicked around a little after watching it and I found this, which was also very weird and hilarious and sounded great, and so I thought I'd share it. They're like human Sock-monkeys or something. I can't contain the laughing when they start dancing. :D

Agh, sorry Mooms! I'm sure they'll have it cleared up quickly though, things like this tend to gear IT authorities into action. My region of the US got cut off from the rest of the world for a day because of overloaded fiber capacity, and they vowed to make sure it would never happen again.

Why, were you looking at the naked pictures?

Getting two minutes every 10-20 minutes now, so maybe they are getting it sorted. I reckon there's going to be a baby boom in NZ in nine months though. :P

As an extremely fastidious Aspie network admin who is Master of His Domain, I do solemnly swear that I have not been contributing to that problem. At the very least, my desire not to have an infected computer and spread such a thing is surprisingly stronger than even the Jennifer Lawrence effect. :P

If you know someone who likes that sort of thing, wander over to their DSL line with some hedge clippers, and see if your internet speeds up. 8)

Will the kids all look like Jennifer Lawrence?
