I too love dogs and could do well without houseflies. They are very annoying. Unsanitary too. Luckily we don't see much cockroaches here. The only roach I saw was when I visited NYC. A dead roach was lying on the floor in the hall. It was there for a long time too, which shows their excellent maintenance at that hotel. I tried to not think too much about the saying that for each roach you see there are 100 you don't see.
I've seen a real scorpion. There was a spider exhibit at the Zoological Museum and I went there. There were lots of different spiders (mostly of the huge South American type) and also one big black glistening scorpion as well as smaller lighter one.
