"It's hard to teach Nex Adveho Ut Tempus in many cases. You do have some ability to shift space-time, but it would take you at least months of training. And what I did was a fairly advanced form. I should teach you Time's Shadow, and the EON Blast....."

Inwardly, Quatermass was getting worried about Ethotoms. His memories of his training with Ethotoms and his master were sparse and fragmented, and most of them gone forever thanks to events before. However, this was not like what he had remembered of the being he remembered. What's wrong with him?......

Dibble looked up at Quatermass. "Is Tommy okay?"

She was worried too, but something disturbed her. Why had Ethotoms disappeared on her?

"Hi guys!"

Dibble spun around. Ethotoms was back in his human costume, and he was walking towards them.

Dark vibes shot through Dibble. She grabbed Quatermass's hand and pulled.

"Let's get outta here, I don't like it, something's not right, let's GO!" she whined.

"I lost everything because of your innocent face." Ethotoms glared at Dibble, "Because I could not kill you. Even as a baby you were powerful. But soon I will be united with my love."

Vampires, Goblins, Golems, and Serpents, half of the EE, came charging at them.

Dibble was furious...

"Have you gone mad???" yelled Quatermass, firing a quick EON Blast that destroyed some of the creatures. He then fired Time-Dilated bullets that killed some more.

"Damnation! What has gotten into your head, Ethotoms? Or is it Tom? Or is it traitor???"

Dibble stood behind Quatermass, furious and scared. She knew she had to help her new best friend.

Heh heh heh.

Dibble raised her arms.

"DRAGON FORCE VOID!" she grinned, four dragons of the Void reaching out and sucking in some of the monsters, using their matter to block up all the holes they'd caused.

"One problem fixed-time travel and teleportation should be safe again." Dibble grinned. Without warning, Ethotoms swooped down and grabbed her.

"Time to go and get the soul of the cosmos for myself." he grinned. Not only had he betrayed her, not only had he betrayed his closest friends in Alaric and Quatermass, but he'd betrayed the EE!

Ethotoms and Dibble disappeared, leaving Quatermass alone to deal with half the EE.

...

"Move!" Ethotoms pushed Dibble through the Void. "Find the soul of the cosmos for me!"

"And I bought you that nice jacket." Dibble grumbled. The pain of being unloved had boiled into annoyance.

"Once I get the soul of the cosmos, I will be able to restore Jesse to life...as for you...you'll probably get destroyed in the process, thus I would have completed my mission. Everyone wins." Ethotoms shot back, smiling.

"And what will happen to the cosmos?" Dibble asked.

"I don't know. It should remain intact, a few changes maybe, but nothing too drastic." Ethotoms pushed her forward.

((Nightmare I had recently. Thought I'd put it to good use.))

Quatermass saw what had happened. He had time, but not enough to do everything.

"Nex Adveho Ut Tempus !"

The majority of the monsters disintegrated, and Quatermass yelled at Alaric.

"I've gotta go. I'm sure you can handle this!"

Then, Quatermass faced the air where Dibble and Ethotoms had vanished. He saw on the ground the Bear. He picked it up and smiled.

"Six of one, half a dozen of the other..." he muttered. He smiled....

And leapt into the Void with a Time-Slash. Right in front of Ethotoms and Dibble.

"Hi. Miss me, old friend? I tend, however, not to count amongst my friends those who think they're God."

Quatermass' face was a mask of carefully concealed fury.

"I do not blame you for failing that mission Ethotoms. You could have changed her, so she isn't a danger to the universe. That was your hubris. But you recognised perhaps her innocence. The fact that she was a weapon that could only be made dangerous by the wielder. The Soul Gobblers. The EE. And now you."

Quatermass smiled, but it was the smile of a shark, the gleam on an explosive device.

"You took the trust of this poor soul, and have twisted it. You seem to think saving the universe as you see it, saving one life is worth sacrificing another. As well as pawning your soul."

Quatermass' face fell.

"No. NO. You learned nothing from your master. And only one master, or rather, one teacher. I have had many teachers, under many skies. And if I have learned Something, it is this: every life is precious. But when life turns on life, you must make a stand. Now, yield."

Quatermass pointed Thanatos at Ethotoms.

"Yield. I know what lies behind your mask. But you have not seen what is behind mine."

"Marie! Where are you?"
Irial didn't know if yelling was the best thing to do in this god-forsaken wasteland, but she did it anyway. A distance away, she saw a flash of purple and knew it was Marie. Irial ran up to her, and panting, said, "We've got to get out of here. I think we're in another dimension."

"Maybe so..." Marie said, scratching her chin and looking to Irial "But are you sure this land might have changed? I do not know but it may be tied with the artifact mumbo-jumbo. Oh oh, maybe we can go to another world~ Ever heard of Cryssna? I have a bit of a home there and no one can get us, right~?"

"What are you gonna do?" Ethotoms readied himself for a fight.

"I'm not talking to either of you!" Dibble snapped.

Ethotoms slapped himself in the head.

Dibble looked up into the nothingness that surrounded her.

"By the way, where IS the soul of the cosmos?"

Ethotoms glared at her. "You're about to find out!"

Dibble looked at him. She sighed.

"DRAGON FORCE SIREN." she raised her arms, the Bear glowing.

Four powerful dragons of sound struck Ethotoms down.

"You can deal with him. I want to be alone for a bit. Okay?" she looked at Quatermass.

"Alone? In this place? If you were left alone in this place--oh bugger!"

As Ethotoms lunged at him, Quatermass clicked his fingers. Time slowed down to a crawl.

"As I was saying, I'm sorry if you took offence at me calling you a weapon. But that is merely one facet of you, not what defines you. Besides, does a gun kill a person? No, a gun is only directed by those using it. They kill, not the gun. But you are not just a weapon. You are a living being, who has choice. One created for a deadly purpose, but you have overcome that so wonderfully. I know you wish to never be used again. All I can do is help you onto the path, and show you the door. You have to walk it yourself."

Quatermass gave Dibble a mote of light.

"People are rarely given a physical representation of choice. Choose the blue, and you may return to Alaric, and I will fight alone. Choose the red, and I will give you one of the greatest gifts, beyond your actual existence and psyche. But make sure you think about the choice."

Quatermass noticed that Ethotoms was starting to break free of the temporal treacle-effect that he had imposed.

"Mimus est fabula. This farce is over. Now."

Ethotoms came out of the time-slowdown and impaled Quatermass, pinning him to the ground.

"I have you now!" yelled Ethotoms.

"Oh. Do you know?" asked Quatermass mildly. He then burst into brilliant blue light. A light which knocked back both Ethotoms and Dibble. A rocky platform, like the one earlier, formed itself, ex nihilo.

Quatermass' voice came out of the light.

"Let me tell you a story. Long ago, there were Laws amongst the most powerful beings in the universes. There were the Eternals, creatures who wandered Eternity's wastes, perpetually looking for excitement, especially in the lives of Emphemerals, the name they had for Mortals. And there were the Chronovores, the beings who lived off time, pruning the dead timelines and feeding off them. Union between the two species was strictly forbidden. But forbidden things have a lure to them.

From the pairing of Prometheus the Eternal and Elektra the Chronovore produced Kronos the Avatar, a being with aspects from both races, the great Androgyne Chronovore. This was the most well-documented of the pairings, but there were two lesser-known ones that were never found.

From the pairing of Artemis the Chronovore and Odin the Eternal came twin Avatars. One named Thanatos and the other Chaos.

The twins fought each other through eternal space, until, with the help of Kronos, Thanatos was sealed into a weapon. The sealing of an avatar was almost unheard of, and the permanent one even more so. Kronos willingly relinquished some of its power to give Chaos a gift. Weapons that would help Chaos realise his destiny was not just to fight. But to help.

Chaos is not complete entropy. Rather, it is seemingly disordered behaviour that has an underlying order beneath. The scientist beneath the clown's face.

And when Chaos decided to become better acquainted with the universe, he took a material body to help the universe better, and to understand that to help, one must not coddle with god-like powers, but rather, give just the right influences in the right times and places.

Even then, even as an Eternal, he needed training and learning, to learn how to restrict his thoughts from a chaotic melange into something like a normal mind.

He has had many teachers, but no master. His only master was the universe, and he was also it's guardian.

He learned, or rather, relearned how to travel the wastes of time, how to manipulate energy, something that would've been easy as a true Eternal, but something he forced himself to do in a harder way.

And he adopted the name of a brave man, who died saving the world from alien incursion. A man who had faced Spoliv creatures, the amonnia-based Ygh, the Martians, and died saving the world in a flash of light.

By the way, sorry about the melodramatics, but we Eternals know that it works well on Emphemerals.

For I am, or rather was, Chaos. Hello. And you are about to witness my true power.
"

Quatermass emerged from the light. He looked pretty much as he always did. Until the blue wings of energy unfolded.

"Ahhhh, I haven't done that for milennia. Probably a good thing we're in the Void too. You made a mistake bringing Dibble here Ethotoms."

"Why's that, you overtheatric idiot?"

"No-one else to hurt, or get in the way."

"There's always Dibble."

"She has to make a choice. The outcome is still more or less assured, but I think maybe Dibble may get some satisfaction out of seeing betrayal shattered. And unlike you, I would not endanger her unless she felt confident enough to cope."

As Ethotoms sprung at Dibble, Dibble made her choice....

((Sorry about the powerplaying with Ethotoms and Dibble, Kezzstar. BTW, Chronos was a character in Doctor Who: The Time Monster and that backstory of his/hers is revealed in the spin-off novel The Quantum Archangel. I also wanted the look of Quatermass' new wings to be like that of Adam's from the Second Impact in Evangelion...))

"If you have a home there, I suppose it would be good to go there, get some rest." Irial couldn't deny the pleasures of a good night's rest, considering her exhaustion, but something was pulling at the back of her mind. She couldn't help thinking of that monkey-like woman. Something told her that she was in trouble, and even though Irial had no idea where she was, or even if she could help her, Irial still couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling she had. On top of that, she wanted to find that person who had helped her move the airship to safety, even if it didn't last very long.
Several meters away, she saw huge eagle-like creature which she recognized as the goblins from earlier, and heard a blood-curdling scream. Knowing the danger of keeping Marie visible, Irial pulled her behind a rock, and whispered, "Whatever you do, don't move." She didn't want to frighten Marie, but Irial was sure that the scream came from Sindri. Perhaps his enemies had gotten the best of him.
The goblin landed, and approached the rock where Irial and Marie were hiding.
"Marie," Irial whispered, fear evident in every syllable,"If you know how to get to Cryssna, for God's sake, do it now."

"Now?!" she paused, her ears perking "But certain preparations must be made, what about landing destination? I would need about a minute or two tops or else I might land you in the middle of a slave-state of the Feinan domain."

She winced however and thought of what those goblins did to Sindri. Her body could not befall the same fate but seeing how there were people after the artifact in her mind she was somewhat fearful that they would turn her into some brain-dead cabbit in a veggie-like state. Oh the horrors if she was to lose her mind; why must she have bonded herself to such an object?

((not sure what to happen. The whole artifact plot was Anubis' o: ))

Irial let out a barely audible sigh of frustration.
She was sure they were going to die in several seconds.
At that moment, bizarrely, she began thinking of the corpse of the man she killed in hijacking the airship.
Irial closed her eyes, waiting for her imminent death, her mind's eye reflecting the ghostly stare of the man's grey eyes.
She opened her eyes, and found that her and Marie(she had kept a tight grasp on Marie's forearm) had somehow been transported back to the airship, which had been perched in the high branches of the trees.
Irial stood up, and grinning broadly, said, "Well, you've got all the time in the world, now."

((No problem, I don't mind at all))

"Quatermass, this is my fight. I just want you to keep an eye out for..." Dibble started, when the entire EE appeared.

"Them."

The Soul-Gobblers glared at her. Then Angelica smiled at Quatermass.

"Hello Chaos. I know I can't hurt you, or the child..."

"I AM NOT A CHILD!! !" Dibble screamed at the top of her lungs.

"As I was saying, you and the clown are beyond my reach. But I'm sure your twin brother can help me." Angelica continued.

"But isn't he...?" Ethotoms asked.

"Uh-oh..." Dibble gulped. "Oh well..."

Dibble smiled, and let the Void suck her in!

"What the...?"

"Listen lady. Thanatos would never agree to it. Cos of really two things. One, the bindings done on this" (he patted Thanatos) "are like the Gordion Knot, except that even violence won't destroy them. I would only leave Thanatos to be brought back during the final death throes of the universe. And second, he does have his pride. As much as he hates being used by me, imagine how much he'd loathe being used by you. No, he'd throw off whatever chains you could manage to summon. Kronos and I had a hell of a time sealing him. Besides, as long as I am alive, this binding cannot be broken."

The energy wings spread a little.

"You know, just before we 'get it on', as they say in the vernacular, where is Dibble?"

((What did you choose, Kezzstar?))

((Just to clean up the artifact plot-

It is an entity called the Mind Lich, which has the power to control infinite minds. It is dormant until the spell is cast, at which point the caster becomes its master.

Sindri's books are onboard the airship, and one of them contains knowledge of the spell's whereabouts, along with some writings of his travels.

It can be removed using a powerful spell on the mountain the party was headed to

Sindri may return as a spirit at select moments, he was killed, but turned into a ghostly form, with the power to attack with bloodbane and cast dark/time spells))
