Hey Krabo, if we find it, will you post a picture of your cat? :)

Theta, you got anything? It has to be some really obscure, tiny village because I'm not finding anything on the map...

My cat? Well. She eats people. She is a lynx.

When they grow up, they are all

I think it may even be outside any municipal limits, just a private house on unincorporated land somewhere.

You know Finland better than I do! :D

Krabo, if the suburbs extend to the east where you are and you're only a mile from Russia, that town must have a HUGE suburb area! 8O

I don't know it THAT well. :D

The part of Sodankylä municipality that is on the Finnish-Russian border is relatively small and half of it is taken up by the Urho Kekkonen national park and if it's one mile from Russia then we should be able to find it. But I've been scanning the border and I can't find anything. Not a single village. You're probably right, that it's just a private house somewhere..

But Krabo, why on earth are you living in the middle of nowhere?? :D

100 posts! YAY! :sunny:

Riikka, congratulations for your 100th post. Step by step, little by little.

As regards my environment, oh well. It just happens to be. This village is well, distant. We are lucky to have a mart where we can buy sausage. And beer.

Congratulations on 100 Riikka! :D

I looked up Pieksämäki, it really didn't look that bad. I've lived in worse places.

Wow, you guys are getting serious about this meeting. I did tell you I won't be coming over to Europe until at least next year, didn't I? Theta, I was going to 'pop over' to Finland from the UK, but it would be quite a trip for you just for lunch.

Thanks, Krabo! You're a super-örnöttäjä if you've lived your whole life up there. :D

And thank you Mooms! Yes, you did tell me that, but time passes quickly. I'm sure before we know it, it will already be 2015. I'm just mentally preparing myself. :)

Pieksämäki isn't the worst city infrastructurally, but I think it's the general gloomy atmosphere that makes it a very undesirable place to live. Of course the generic Finnish problems of alcoholism, depression, domestic abuse, suicides etc. probably contributed to the ranking as well.

If you don't want it publicly known you can PM me. :)

We have far flung country districts too... large tracts of relatively uninhabited land esp;ecially in the arid semi-desert Karoo and Kalahari regions.

I would think Krabo's quite used to it by now and is quite happy as long as he can get sausage and beer. Perhaps he has to nip across the border for vodka. 8)

As long as he doesn't get caught by wolves. Or bears. 8O

Enviro, I once sent my Italian penpal a picture of the countryside just ten minutes from here. A whole vast expanse, with no houses in it at all. She couldn't believe how much space there was. And I'm on the North Island. Some areas of the South Island are hardly inhabited at all.

They probably hired him to do the whole thing himself. :P

You have to travel to Middle Earth to get to some areas of the South Island. 8)
