Must be a French thing. If it doesn't move... they eat it. If it does move... they shoot it, then eat it.

uh....

Um, in a way it's quite smart to make one's diet as broad as possible (like the Chinese tend to do also) but I don't like they kill MY birds too and eat them.

ieh....

Beautiful thrushes, blackbirds, etc. end up being caught and eaten.

aah....

But hey, what can one do?

Try winning a tad here maybe.

I prefer blackberry pie to blackbird pie, fewer bones in it.

I win.

8O Blackbird pie? Wouldn't even surprise me if the French had such a thing. Never mind.

Have you ever eaten a bird (caught in the wild), besides chicken, turkey, pheasant (yeah=wild), I mean? Not that I blame you of course.... in a way I'm curious myself for it's probably very healthy food indeed (but hey, my 'religion' won't allow me to, my love for the little fellas even more so).

And while we're off topic as it is.... I have some regular birds visiting my garden.... I feed them almost year round (wrens, blackbirds, one robin, dunnocks, wood pigeons, collared turtle doves, probably the thrush will return soon too and others more irregular) , and the turtle doves eat out of my hand and they're perfectly wild, no kid you.... so I could.... NAH. (bad joke)

Can I win now?

No I've not had blackbird pie. However I've eaten wild wood pigeon. It seemed only right. It kept stealing the veg out of my garden so I shot it and ate it!

Call me Cruella: I ate thrushes once.
All I remember is that there was not much to eat and it was complicated to eat properly (with knife and fork).

Therefore, I win the thread.
