Dr. Auckland replied in a purely informative manner, "I have a PHD in Quantum Physics, and I have more minor degrees in more basic Physics, Mathmatics, General Science, Philosphy, various languages, and a few others I cannot place my finger on at the moment."

"Well that is fairly impressive. Perhaps we may benefit from your erudition in other ways. I should love to have a discussion with you when we have more leisure, butg Marie and the Multiverse are in grave and imminent peril. I trust," he said turning to Irial, "that you are not exhausted by your recent encounter? I think I may have recovered enough to transport us back to the airship, unless of course you," turning back to Doctor Auckland would prefer to use your own teleportation methods? I can give you the coordinates..."

Dr. Auckland replied, "My teleportation methods work for teleporting around worlds. But I would have to slingshot around what I would call a peer in one dimension called a "border world", it is where membranes intersect. From what I last heard about his world, he is probably alien chow. My teleportation technology uses a similar basis to the most likely alien chow person's universe. Actually closer to a portable teleporter they were working on. Except without the weapons application." He stopped for a second, and then apologized, "I'm sorry for rambling." He then concluded, "I will use my own method, actually I borrowed a few points from others. Can you give me the co-ordinates, I feel it is safer to go there directly than to go through unknown terroritory."

"Yes, it probably would be safer, especially at the moment... And thank you for that extra information; it was of great interest to me. Now the coordinates are *apologies if this comes across as meaningless or random* continuum V, sector 37, plan. 3 of Omega Kasterbori, 95 degrees north, 37 west of the Cryssopolis Meridian. If that needs further disambiguation, just scan this summary - I could download it into your mind with your permission to make the connections absolutely certain, but I really do not know what that would do to you..."

Dr. Auckland then replied, "I do not think your system of co-ordinates is compatible. I use an XYZ system. My home universe is rather backwards, and I am the first person and probably the only for quite a while longer to set foot out of it. However, I can interpolate your system if you provide me with the co-ordinates of this universe and a few others."

Garnet put her coat on the table and smiled around her. She loved houses like this-with hardly any sunlight. She knew what would happen to her if the sun ever reached her. She shivered.
Foijin, meanwhile, glanced at the dog. He searched his head for the dog language, found it, and went over to the dog. Maybe she could help him.
"My name is Foijin," he said. "The little girl is my master."
Nantadha slept, clinging to a curtain with her tiny feet.

Garnet looked up at Nyx going upstairs. "Why do you skip every other stair?" she called.

"It's an old habit," Nyx called back down. "I'm too lazy to break it."
She rushed to the phone and managed to catch it just before the fourth ring; after that it would have gone to the message machine.
"Hello?"
There was no answer. Not again, Nyx thought.
"Look, if you're not going to answer you can take this telephone and shove it up your --" A dial tone abruptly sounded. With a sigh, she replaced the phone onto the cradle. She hated people who called and hung up. Hopefully it was just some stupid kids this time...
She slid back down the staircase and asked Garnet, "So, what do you want to do?"

Garnet sat on the floor. "Well, I don't know." She looked up and narrowed her eyes. "How much time until midnight? I need to find blood, human."

"Well given how I was abruptly transported into this latest universe against my will, it may take me some time to get my bearing, though as Irial followed willingly she may be able to help, depending upon her own method of transference. I can however provide the co-ordinates for the universes containing Cryssna, the Wasteland and Gandesha, our previous ports of call... Ahh, I think I have computed the relation of this universe's space time continuum with the others, as well as the position of this planet within this universe to the point equivalent to our desired destination, our position latitute and longitude wise on this planet relevant..." He droned on for a little then provided the co-ordinates.

Quantum Physics? Mathematics? Irial didn't know what those were, but she did know that he was more out his element here than anyone she'd ever met. As an apprentice, she had learned basic arithmetic and how to read, but the emphasis was far more on her swordsmanship. Her magic she had taught herself at night, away from prying eyes.

Irial suppressed a grin. What she was about to do was probably far beyond anything this physicist could ever possibly imagine.
"Forget coordinates. Come on, I'll take you to whichever world you want.We ought to get out of here, as whoever blasted you here, Alaric, is likely to have done so to get you in their grasp. Unless, of course, you know who it is."

Dr. Auckland thought for a second, "Forget the co-ordinates? I get it, some sort of magic, perhaps? What should I say? Ah, yes I should make an oft comment that they wont understand." He then acted on his mental plan and said in a questioning manner, "So are you going to cast teleportation on us for the cost of 10 MP?"

Irial caught the condescending tone in his voice but was unable to understand the meaning behind the words, having never played an RPG before. Disregarding the condescention, Irial said, with a bantering grin, "Well, perhaps. Though I don't do spells. And I'll thank you to not speak of my powers lightly. I am, for your information, an Elemental, as well as a prophetess, hence the eyes. I'm also trained in sword combat. Taking you anywhere you like is completely under my control, as well as hurting you as badly as I see fit. So, do you want to go, or not?"

Dr. Auckland looked confused for a second and then replied, "I was making an oblique culutural reference that most likely would only apply to information aged world, where magic is only mythical. And your a prophet of some sort? With your part of the greater multiverse or multiverses, strange and timeless. I would hazard a guess you were what the oracles of delphi, on the many worlds know as earth. Was supposed to be, but wasnt."

"Except," remarked Alaric witheringly, as like Irial he was rather impatient with the condescension of Doctor Auckland, "what the oracle at Delphi was not, she is. Now please do not be quite so smug; while your credentials are indubitably impressive, their direct application in these parts of the Multiverse has yet to be proven in all respects. Irial's method should be rather easier; she has proved herself truly proficient, which is more than can be said for a number of my efforts I must admit. Yours remain to be seen, though no doubt they will be spectacular. Now for Marie's sake and for our own I advise that we lose no more time, if you will forgive a somewhat high-handed tone."

Dr. Auckland then replied in a vague tone, "There are universal laws that bind all universes, multiverses, border worlds, and the like. I have seen evidence for binding laws, such as higher beings being able to operate as they usually do in other universes.. Not so much gods as ascended beings, and aliens with impressive gadets."

"I have encountered such beings myself, including recently. And yes, there do appear to be certain laws, if I may use that term, that hold good for multiple worlds, but at present I regret that this fascinating philosophical conversation must be postponed. I assure you that I find your words a wealth of interest, but I am anxious about our friend Marie; while Irial must have overcome one of our enemies, at least for now and indeed probably for some time, there are still some fairly perilous beings roaming the cosmos at the moment. Do you wish to accompany us? There is a high probalility of danger, I feel it is my duty to inform you."

Dr. Auckland said in a quick response, "Some of those beings are quite less terrible than some of the enemies in my homeworld. It is a post nuclear horror in many respects, mutated creatures, killer robots, genetic engineered monsters, vicious barbarians and the like. Anyways, if you say we should go somewhere, we should get going. People who tend to not go when they should usually end up full off bulet holes, or food of some creature, or their fate is much worse."

"Good point. If you have survived in your world, chances are you will be useful. Shall we be going Irial?" He awaited her response.
