Dr. Timothy Leary suggested SHe and hir as gender-neutral pronouns. Another more popular option is to use masculine and feminine pronouns in turns. The second option works well when you discuss hypothetical individuals, and I see that in textbooks all the time.

I prefer 'they'.

I would find it very confusing if something switched back and forth between 'he' and 'she'. I think a gender neutral noun would be a good idea.

Hai!

+1 for "they", that's what I use and it makes perfect grammatical sense to me. In America, our mobsters did say "yous" in the 20's, as in "yous guys". That makes it pretty cool around here actually. :D

Hai?

You could use the Finnish greeting Hei. My ipad autocorrects to that now. 8)

There's more to that. Shark is in Finnish hai, as it is in German. Thus, if you're greeting a shark, you would say "Hei hai".

I'm pretty sure if I was meeting a shark, I would not be saying "hei hai" :P

Well, there are interesting YouTube videos of people whose almost last words have been Hei hai.

By the way, now that I'm looking at those two words, they begin to resemble Crazy Horse's motto Hoka hey, which means "It's a good day to die."

I thought that was Worf, son of Mogh's motto. You learn something new every day.

On me? I'm alright with that! :) I've only really just started to get acquainted with Krabo though.

Leave it to Star Trek to be so historical. Who knew the Klingons learned everything they needed to know from Native Americans? ...Well, except for the general war-like nature.

Hope you're all having a nice time of day.

A beautiful crisp early winter' day here. Would have been lovely if I hadn't had to spend half of it at a tax seminar. :?

^ Had nice and interesting small talk moments with all the interesting people around you? Enjoyed the sophisticated tranquility of a large group of civilized persons who had gathered together to spend a lovely winter day at a seminar?

No. I sat in the corner and ignored everyone. Then escaped as soon as I could. 8)

Hey, indeed. You mentioned a New Zealand thread somewhere else. Where can I find it?
