Leonid Brezhnev collected jokes about himself. He also collected people telling those jokes.

Obscure fact:

Every time you lick a stamp, you’re consuming 1/10 of a calorie.

Vehemence can stand in for valid logic, but only in the short term.

Eva Braun hated Hitler's dog, Blondi, and used to kick the poor dog when she had the chance.

This is useful and directly-applicable perspective for me today. Thank you!

Not obscure, but a fact nonetheless:

Sylkat meant to post this in a different thread.

Oh,NOOOOOO!

So sorry!

Well, anyhow, here is a fact...

When a preserved Platypus was first exhibited in England, scientists insisted that it was a fake.

Piltdown Man was found to be a hoax;

It was said, around 1910 or so, to have been the "missing link," between man and apes.

Allen Ginsberg was one of many, many male lovers of Neal Cassaday.

Who was probably a manic-depressive as well an alcoholic and drug addict, and who participated in a (can't say it here) on his girlfriend with a number of Hells Angels.

At Ken Kesey's 'farm'.

The incident was described by Hunter S. Thompson, who was there.

Obscure fact:

On a Canadian two-dollar bill, the American flag is flying over the Parliament Building.

Japanese alcohol classification allows for a lot of leeway in the production of their national drink, nihonshu, more commonly known in the West as sake (in Japanese, a generic term for alcoholic beverages). Big companies add up to 50% sugar, grain alcohol, flavorings and water to their products. If you want traditionally-produced sake, then look for the word Junmai on the label.

Other words you may see include
tokubetsu: for unique styles such as nigori, cloudy sake
ginjo: some of the protein shell of the rice is polished away
daiginjo: most of the protein shell of the rice is polished away

Those last two types of sake may cost more, particularly the daiginjo, but don't always deliver value for money in my experience.

Additionally, most sake doesn't seem to age well. Exposure to light or excessive heat will seriously harm the flavor.

Richard Burton bet his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, that he would win a ping-pong match with her.

She won.

He had bet her a diamond ring.

He bought her three.

Obscure fact:

The average talker sprays about 300 microscopic saliva droplets per minute, about 2.5 droplets per word.
