No, not yet anyway. They'd be at a different angle if they were. Plus, I think they're always swimming while they mate. Interestingly, it is believed the courting process can take place for several weeks before mating occurs. The males may compete with each other by seeing who can raise their neck the highest. And sometimes other males will attack the male of a couple while they mate. It's hard to be a sea turtle!

I forgot to say thanks for the information, Skilpadde. That was really interesting.

How much of a scumbag does one have to be to attack the male in a mating couple?
Skilpadde, if you see your turtles doing that, stop it and lock their thread. You are a mod, so usurp dominance.

It'd be great to be an Aspie Turtle. You'd always have a home to go to should you not feel like socializing.

Plus you wouldn't have to talk. But you'd have to watch out for other turtles attacking you for no reason.
Skilpadde probably has a turtle farm at her home and is an authorized breeder.

I doubt an attack by another turtle could be very serious :)

I know, and if I ever catch a turtle doing anything of the kind, I will make very sure he is told that the rules governing turtle society do not permit attacking love birds turtles.

Now, that's the spirit! Also, it's socially acceptable in Chelonian culture to withdraw when one feels like it. It'd be great to be a turtle!

I wish!

Spiderpig, thanks for the great video. That must have been from "The future is wild"?

Actually, big turtles like sea turtles have powerful beaks.

Indeed. In particular, 100 million years in the future, when there are no large mammals anymore. In fact, the only remaining mammal species is a tiny rodent farmed by spiders.

Ouch!, I didn’t think of that.

Octupuses have strong beaks, too.
