They have beaks?
Yes, they do. They don't have teeth, but a beak made of bone covered in keratin (the same stuff that's in our nails and rhino horns). There is an interesting article about its evolution here:
http://www.mapoflife.org/topics/topic_3 ... and-birds/Pet turtles don't always eat enough hard foods, so their beaks can grow too long and need trimming. You can read how that is done here:
http://www.turtlecare.net/home/turtle-t ... l-trimmingI've seen pictures of turtles with too long beaks. It's a very sad sight!
It also prevents them from eating when it gets bad enough. Poor turtles!

Spiderpig, thanks for the great video. That must have been from "The future is wild"?
Indeed. In particular, 100 million years in the future, when there are no large mammals anymore. In fact, the only remaining mammal species is a tiny rodent farmed by spiders.
I caught some of that show on Animal Planet years ago. It was very interesting.

Actually, big turtles like sea turtles have powerful beaks.
Ouch!, I didn’t think of that.
My turtle Nikita once bit my finger so it bled. It was before she was tamed. Her water was a little cold so I turned the thermostat up. She
really appreciated that!
