Yes, they do. They don't have teeth, but a beak made of bone covered in keratin (the same stuff that's in our nails and rhino horns). There is an interesting article about its evolution here:
http://www.mapoflife.org/topics/topic_3 ... and-birds/

Pet turtles don't always eat enough hard foods, so their beaks can grow too long and need trimming. You can read how that is done here:
http://www.turtlecare.net/home/turtle-t ... l-trimming

I've seen pictures of turtles with too long beaks. It's a very sad sight! :( It also prevents them from eating when it gets bad enough. Poor turtles!

Spiderpig, thanks for the great video. That must have been from "The future is wild"?

Indeed. In particular, 100 million years in the future, when there are no large mammals anymore. In fact, the only remaining mammal species is a tiny rodent farmed by spiders.

I caught some of that show on Animal Planet years ago. It was very interesting.

Actually, big turtles like sea turtles have powerful beaks.

Ouch!, I didn’t think of that.

My turtle Nikita once bit my finger so it bled. It was before she was tamed. Her water was a little cold so I turned the thermostat up. She really appreciated that!

Must have missed that episode. Slow and steady wins the race :D

Anyone familiar with Vikram Seth's poem "The Hare and the Tortoise"? It's a good one (except for the ending).

No, only ninja turtles have teeth. Un-mutated modern turtles have beaks made of keratin-covered bone. But some prehistoric turtles actually had teeth.

Also, hatchlings have a so-called egg tooth that they use to emerge from the egg. The egg tooth is lost within the first months of the young turtle's life.

I think that squids have beaks, too.

I believe that Snapping Turtles have bitten through people's fingers, who have been foolish enough to try to pick them up.

If you see a turtle or a tortoise, you can't help but pick it up and love it. If it bites you, that means it likes you and wants to be your pet.

Yes, squids have beaks too.

As far as I know common snapping turtles cannot bite off a finger. It's supposedly a myth. Apparently their bite is hard and painful, but not enough to bite off the finger of an adult. I think an alligator snapping turtle could though.

Personally I find these kinds of videos disgusting, but it shows the power of the alligator snapping turtle.

The first sentence is true . The rest is just part of getting to know each other.

That's correct, DeepHour! :D Skilpadde does indeed mean turtle, and back when we had custom titles here, mine was Honorary Chelonian.
