Never? Why? I mean, certain types of programs I would understand, but TV altogether
Earthling wrote:
Why didn't you keep watching after the first 3 seasons?
I didn't really quit per se. I used to watch it, but then they sent a heap of reruns, and after seeing them for umpteenth time, it wasn't that important anymore. My fave episodes I could watch over and over and over and over and... you get the point but for the rest it was enough with over and over lol.
So I missed out of when they started sending new episodes and so I missed out on a lot. When I tuned back in after seeing the r for rerun missing, I would have missed out on a lot, and not having watched for a while, I would forget the half an hour weekly opportunity. So it wasn't by choice.
And yeah, there are definitely aspies who aren't into Pokemon. I used to have an online aspie friend who didn't understand why I was into Pokemon and kept saying it was a kids game so why did I bother. I don't get that at all, there were things he was into that I'm not but I didn't ask him why he bothered. That was annoying to be honest. He said it was a kids game so he never tried it. Well, when Gen one came out here, I was 22. Didn't stop me and I've been hooked since.
When I first started playing (Blue) I didn't know much about it, just the general idea. I started out with Squirtle (of course) and didn't have a guide at the time. So I didn't know what a lot of the things were for, I wouldn't know for sure which Pokemon should be taught which moves (and TMs disappeared after being used once back then), I nearly blacked out on Mount Moon (OMG I got so lost there!) and Seafoam Islands was also hard enough. Now i always use the guides
Do you have a fave Pokemon or type, Earthling?

Technically I was granted 1 hour of media time. But at first I didn't even know about anime and when I found out my mom wasn't exactly fond of the "violence" in it.
So I didn't watch anything while she was at home, which she was a lot.
About your friend... IDK, people have opinions. Opinions don't really matter. Some like, some don't and some cry about things, whatever. ^^
It someone isn't open to challenge (or as I prefer to call it: ignore) societal standard which dictates Pokemon is for kids only, therefore childish, therefore immature... with a different perspective (it's simply fun), it's a waste of time to react at all, from my experience.
And we can't always be nice and adapt to everyone's expectations just so that they are put at ease at our expense. We need to have some innocent fun too.

I don't like to decide that one of them is the best because they are all great.
I suppose Electric type is pretty useful due to paralysis properties on electric moves.
I like Persian in gen 1 since it's the only normal type that can learn Slash which is bugged (almost always crits). That means you get 70BASE+STAB+CRIT = 210 damage per attack, which can OHKO a large chunk of opponents. Hyper Beam by comparison has only 90% accuracy, needs recharge and only does 150 damage if used by non-STAB Pokemon.
Looks-wise I like Haunter, Scizor, Corasol (lol), Ampharos, Dwebble, Zoroark... I better stop now before naming them all.
Do you have any favorites, Skilpadde? Probably, because there are plenty of skilpadde Pokemon.

Your mother reacted to the violence in Pokemon? Wow. I'm not used to people reacting to cartoons TBH, because they're just cartoons, and they're like that to large degree, just look at Donald Duck, Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny.

I’d never let anyone persuade or bully me out of my interests. My interests matter far more to me than they do to be honest. Well, they don’t matter more than my family, but they’ve never objected. Thankfully! That’d be difficult.

Yes, I agree that they’re all great. The only thing I don’t like about Pokemon is that it’s too hard to level up as many as one would like. I wish one could re-play the game with new Pokemon without deleting it. Battle the same trainer and gyms etc.
Electric is good, and I really like how they themselves can’t be paralyzed in Gen VI. Same with poison type not getting poisoned, Fire type can’t be burned, very good.
I wish there was something you could give a Pokemon to make non-STAB moves as effective as STAB moves. There are already items that ungrounds or grounds them, so it could be done. The closest thing is the metronome which makes moves more powerful when used in succession. The ability Pixilate, which only Fairy types can have, allow them to use Normal types as if they were Fairy could also be used for other types under other names.
I wish Bug Pokemon were more effective in use. Many of them are cool, but too weak.
I do tend to have a liking for water and grass types, that’s usually the starter I go for.
Meganium, Mightyena, Binacle, Scyther, Octillery, Salamence, Dratini, Horsea, Servine, Amaura, Lucario, and so many others…. I too would be naming them all if I had to name all pokes I like! lol
I also find the idea of the shape shifting Pokemon Zoroark and Ditto very cool.
I’d be lying if I claimed that the turtle pokes and their evolutions aren’t particularly special to me. Squirtle, Turtwig, Torkoal, Tirtouga… Even Shuckle, even though really Bug/Rock. Too bad its attack is as low as its defence is high. It’s really only good for double or triple battles where it can protect the team. Shuckle looks so turtley.
By the way, it’s Corsola, not Corasol

I know. She also got particularly upset about "angry" faces (clenched teeth & pulled-together eyebrows) and didn't like to watch "too thrilling stuff" like horror movies or crime documentaries. That's just how she is, can't be changed. ^^

Yeah, basically New Game+, like so many old RPGs, would be a great thing. Especially because during the regular playthroughs you can't get certain Pokemon before reaching near the end of the story, so you miss out on using them for the largest portion of the game.
I mean sure, there are cheats that enable you to rebattle or force certain encounters... but using cheats is like a trap where you keep cheating until you have everything and all fun is over.
It would mix things up if the game would limit the levels of Pokemon you are allowed to use (0% obedience if overleveled, no exp after certain level) to prevent sweeping/stalling everything with a level 100.
I'd probably still not play it because game's not hard enough and no fast-forwarding... But one can always dream, it's a nice concept.

How interesting... my pick is usually the Fire type.
I once beat Crystal by only actively using Typhlosion (lvl 80+ vs RED) and Suicune (lvl ~50 vs RED) and some revives.

I think I remember having seen Shuckle do pretty alright in gen 2 lvl 5 UU battles on Youtube actually.
Since you've played pretty much all the games Skilpadde,

Gee, I’ve been real lucky in that way. My parents were never very strict on things like that. That’s not to say that I could watch anything, but they took both my age and my personality into account and didn’t over do it. When my mother and I are gonna watch something enjoyable together, it’s usually horror (my fave genre, because we both very much enjoy that genre. I’m glad all 3 of us like it.

New Game + would be awesome in Pokemon! Yeah, in ORAS for example you can’t get Pokemon from the national Pokedex until after beating the 8 gym leaders. It’d be nice to use them earlier than that. And in some earlier games the dragons always appeared late in the games, and then they were often at a rather low level. More exp when battling wild Pokemon would also be a helpful way to go about it.
Other features I’d like to see:
A return of the garden in X and Y where one could plant berries
A return to the underground as seen in Diamond/Platinum / Pearl
Some new events after the game, like the Delta Event in ORAS
A Pokémon version of Fantasy Life, where you could try out different things in the Pokemon universe
That the previous starters could be rare but available in the wild
I hope we’ll see Ghost Gyms again. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind if all 18 types got a gym. It could tie in with the New Game + feature.

Hmm… That must have made Brock and Misty hard to beat for you.
My fave starter in every gen would be: Kanto: Squirtle. Johto: Chikorita. Hoenn: Ooh, tough choice between Mudkip and Treecko, but Mudkip is so useful in the battle against Wattson, so I’ll go with him. Sinnoh: Turtwig. Unova: Snivy. Kalos: Can’t pick one.

Oh wow! I needed more than two to beat him.

Love the image! Poor confused Squirtle!
I looked it up, and yeah, Shuckle sure do well in some videos! I got some tips in those videos as well, so now I ache to try it out in my games. Especially with the move Power Split. I’m excited to see how it’ll work out! In the mean time…

Actually I never got to play Hey you Pikachu or Pokemon Channel. Nor Pokepark
OMG Sophie’s choice much?
Uhm…
As much as I really like Conquest for its innovative ways, Ranger and Mystery dungeon for giving us a very different insight into that universe (and really tugging on the heart strings in Mystery Dungeon’s case) and the GB card game, I will have to go for a game in the main series, even though it’s really hard to place especially Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky in second place.
Gen 1 will always be special because it was the first Pokémon game I played. The limited space on the PC and in your bag, as well as always having to save when going from one box to another drags it down. The Pokemon also didn’t learn all that many moves back then. I really liked how you got all 3 starters in Yellow.
I was really amazed by all the changes in Gen 2, with night and day (and different Pokemon depending on the time), and just coming in to Goldenrod City was an experience. I also really liked how you got to visit Kanto afterwards and see the changes from Gen 1. It was great to finally be able to play as a female in Crystal.
Hoenn was great in Gen 3, but I like the remake ORAS even better. The weather, the rainy area of the Weather Institute, contests, and in the case of ORAS, all the legendaries available, 5 strong trainers to battle daily in the Battle Resort after the game, Latios/Latias flying you here and there, including to secluded areas to find legendaries. ORAS must have the highest amount of legendaries available. I also really like how one is given one Hoenn starter, and then some of the previous starters much later in the game.
Sinnoh introduced good Pokemon (like Turtwig!) and an underground and the distortion world. Amity Square was a nice touch too.
Black and White were awesome, and I really liked how there were differences between the two versions (like Opelucid City being old-fashioned in White and futuristic in Black. The Tower and Forest were great things to do after the main plot. And I very much liked that there were sequels in B/W 2 where we saw how things had changed. Join Avenue was a nice addition, a way to strengthen your Pokemon if you could afford it, and it was good to have the option of daily battles in the Stadium.
X and Y with their new Pokemon and introducing the Fairy type, roller skates, your very own berry garden, horde encounters, exp share for the whole party, not merely one Pokemon…
I also liked how in gen 5 and 6 there were more than one rival, new takes on it and more people to battle. I have to say that a lot of the game mechanics were better in 5 and 6, and it was great when TMs weren’t used up after teaching one Pokemon.
I think I might have to go with 5 or 6, but that might also be because they’re the ones I’ve played most recently. I don’t think I can pick just one single game, sorry. I’ll give it some more thought, but that’s my answer for now.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that I dig TMNT and that I have been obsessed with them at one point?

I know I first heard of them as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, then found out about the change and have stubbornly used Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever since. As much as I love the idea of calling them what they are, heroes, it's just too ridiculous IMO to change their name like that.
