Our favourite ones are the ones spent at home.

It's too bad we don't get to see the brain cavity; then we might be able to tell if they have any brain structure in common with aspies.

I am getting heartily sick of being logged out of WP and having problems going round and round trying to get to my inbox.

Skilpadde, I was just watching a show called Hellsfjord. Very weird, but lots of fun trying to understand the Norwegian. :D I'm rather excited as Duolingo is building a Norwegian course. It's estimated for release in about a month. I will definitely be trying it. Unfortunately they haven't got a Finnish course yet, so I'm still struggling with that on my own at home.

Hope all my WP friends are doing ok.

Doing great here thanks, sorry to hear you've been having problems with your WP account.

How's your Maori by the way? Can you read, write or speak it?

Are Finnish and Norwegian fairly similar in their grammar and structure? My guess is that Norwegian is considerably easier!

Hi enviro :D

Finnish is completely unrelated to any other language except Estonian, and very, very distantly Hungarian. Apart from a few adopted words, if you hear Finnish you won't understand anything.

Naturally I was watching the Norwegian show with subtitles, but I could pick out quite a few words. It would definitely be a lot easier.

I understand almost no Maori, just a few words that they regularly use on the news. A very tiny proportion of New Zealanders speak Maori, even those with Maori heritage. However, when I first moved here we lived in the Far North, and there you would regularly hear it spoken on the main street. 8)

I've been checking out various NZ places because it's such a beautiful place.

Otorohanga looks like a good place to be! Are you familiar with it?

I've been through a few times, had lunch there. I wouldn't say I know it well.

I never watched that particular show. It's great that Duolingo will have a Norwegian course! Some words you might like to know:

Hund: dog

Mummitrollet: the main character in the Moomin series

Mummimamma og (and) Mummipappa: the parents

Snusmumrikken: Snufkin

Snorkfrøken: Snork Maiden

Mummidalen: Moominvalley

Maybe a crab could help you with the Finnish.

Enviro, as Moomin said, Finnish is an entirely different language from Norwegian. The 3 Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Danish, Swedish) are rather similar, but they are very different from the other Nordic languages Finnish, Greenlandic, Faroese and Icelandic, even though Icelandic is close to Norse. Faroese too, actually.

^ thanks for the words, Skilpadde.

I was playing with the French course on Duolingo and I got the question "J'ai une tortue" (I have a turtle). I have great hopes that the Norwegian course will contain "Skilpadde". You can be sure I will remember the word if it does. :D

I'll let you know how I get on when it starts.

Edit : post 6,666. Might leave it there for a while. 8)

Does a Moomin count as a Beast?

You will still have three sixes in your total count should you respond... :bounce:

Glad you liked the words :)

Yay, now I know how to say that I have a turtle in French :D I knew tortue was French for turtle (I collect words for turtle in different languages), but my French is extremely limited, I've just picked up a handful of words here and there.
I hope you'll find something about skilpadde in the course! :D

Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I remember looking forward to, but missing out on my own 666 and 6666... I didn't notice them until I had already passed them.

Most definitely a Moomin counts as a beast. Why else would they have a song called "All small beasts should have bows in their tails"? 8) I tried to find it on youtube but sadly no luck.

I just like the symettry of all the same numbers. Six is particulary pleasing as itis nice and rounded.

Skilpadde, if you want to say "I have a turtle" in Italian, it is "Ho una tartaruga". If you want to say "I have a lot of turtles" it would be "Ho molte tartarughe". :D (I don't know how many you have). I think Finnish would be "Minulla on kilpikonna" but you would need to check with the Krab. Finnish is still incredibly confusing to me, although I've found a new online course with a man who explains things very well, so I'm hoping it will make more sense soon.

How would you say "I have a turtle" in Norwegian? I should start now, and "to have" is one of the most important verbs. :)

Do Moomins celebrate Saint Patrick's Day
.
Bright green fireworks right before dawn?

Dipping each others' tail tufts in green paint?

Green milk for oatmeal?
