"Squirtle, Use Water Gun!", Rose commanded. And then her Squirtle starts shooting out a spray of water right at my Charmander.

I have a bad feeling about this, I thought. Then I said, "Charmander, dodge and use Metal Claw!"

My Charmander did as I commanded, avoiding a line of water spray, and then it imbues its claws with a metallic substance and starts charging at Rose's Squirtle.

"Oh, is that the best you can do?", Rose teased, "Squirtle, use Withdraw!"

Then her Squirtle tucked in its limbs and head into its shell, and as it did that, my Charmander then slashed at Squirtle with its Metal Claw, but didn't really seem to do much. Then I remembered why: because 1. Squirtle is a Water-type, while Metal Claw is a Steel-type; Steel-type attacks aren't really effective against Water-type Pokémon. And 2. Since Squirtle used Withdraw, it has increased its defensive attribute, further reducing the damage taken from physical attacks.

Actually, luckily my Charmander has increased its offensive attribute from using Metal Claw, which will increase damage dealt toward its opponent(s?) with its physical attacks.

"Hmph", Rose exclaimed, "Pretty clever, cuz, but you're going to have to do better than that! Squirtle, use Tackle!" Then her Squirtle started to charge at my Charmander.

"Charmander, use Scratch!", I commanded. Then Charmander extended its arms, ready to scratch at Squirtle, and charged at it.

Both my Charmander and Squirtle charged at each other, then they hit each other, Squirtle ramming at Charmander, while Charmander scrapes the living daylights out of Squirtle with its fingers.

Then both Squirtle and Charmander are starting to get exhausted.

Wake winced with every blow, and finally shouted, No more! It hurts too much!

"Rrrgh!", Rose exclaimed angrily, "Squirtle, use Tail Whip!" Then her Squirtle charged at my Charmander, and used its tail to whip at it repeatedly.

"Ha!", Rose then gloated, "I've just lowered your defenses. What do you think of that?"

I then commanded to my Charmander, "Use Growl!" Then Charmander made a snarling sound that is almost very intimidating, but enough to startle her Squirtle. "And I've just lowered your attack power. What do YOU say to that?"

That's when Rose started to get REALLY frustrated. "Squirtle, use Water Gun again!" Then her Squirtle starts to spray a line of water from its mouth toward Charmander.

"Charmander, use Ember!", I commanded. Then my Charmander starts spraying a rapid fire tiny balls of flame from its mouth towards Squirtle. Well, actually, the Ember attacked Squirtle's Water Gun attack, and are trying to intercept each other. Both attacks are struggling to reach either Charmander or Squirtle.

"Woah, this is awesome!", one of the three girls said.

"Go, go, go!", cheered the other.

But I caught a quick glance at the blue-haired girl, and she doesn't seemed to be cheering at all, but rather seemed to be interested in it, like she wants to participate in this battle herself.

I don't want to see any more. Wake moved closer and appeared to dissolve into Dream, leaving nothing behind. Dream then stood up as if nothing out of the ordinary happened, and stepped a bit closer to where Charmander and Squirtle were battling, completely ignoring the fact that Kiwa was still on their head.

Ghost cringed when the Pokemon struck each other. Nihilego wrapped itself more tightly around her, sensing her anxiety.

"Are you sure this is fun?" Ghost whispered to Bagon, "It doesn't look like it."

Bagon nodded and returned to cheering, looking almost ready to jump into the battle itself.

"Oh, come on," One of the three girls said, "Pokémon battles are a sport, just like wrestling and boxing."

As she said that, my Charmander is starting to get overwhelmed by Squirtle's Water Gun attack while being deflected by Charmander's Ember attack, creating steam in the middle of them.

"Alright, I'm starting to lose my patience!", Rose exclaimed. But, seriously, when DOESN'T she not lose her patience? "Squirtle, finish Charmander off with Tackle!" Then her Squirtle stopped using Water Gun, sidestep to evade my Charmander's Ember attack, and charged at full speed toward Charmander.

"Charmander, use Growl!", I commanded. Then Charmander made a shrilling noise coming out from its mouth, causing Squirtle to slow down a bit, being distracted from Charmander's Growl.

"Now, use Metal Claw!", I commanded. Then once again my Charmander imbues its hands with a metallic substance, and starts scraping the daylights out of Squirtle.

"Why you....?!", Rose exclaimed angrily, "Squirtle, Water Gun!", the her Squirtle the starts to shoot a spray of water at point-blank range at Charmander. But Charmander ducked, barely evading the Water Gun attack.

"Use Ember, Charmander!", I commanded. Then Charmander sprays a rapid-fire flame bullets from its mouth, roasting Squirtle.

"Now let's finish this up with Scratch!", I commanded. Then Charmander swiped at Squirtle, knocking it back across the field.

Then Squirtle felt so exhausted, it couldn't get up and layed there.

"Squirtle is now unable to battle!", Professor Oak declared, "Charmander is the winner! And the victory goes to Dan!"

"What", Rose said blankly. Then she yelled, "NOOOOOOOO! Why!?", starting to develop tears in her eyes.

Then Rose took a few deep breaths, walked over to her now exhausted Squirtle, picked it up ad cradled it like a baby, and said, "You were so wonderful, Squirtle. My cousin was just lucky to beat us."

"Squirtle....", her Squirtle said in response.

Then Rose walked over to me and said, "You were so darn lucky to beat me, cuz. Next time, I'm gonna ravage you good. That was a good battle, though."

"Yeah, it was," I responded, "Although I did beat you fair and square."

"Of course, you did", Rose said.

Then we shook hands in agreement.

"Wow, that was amazing!", One of the other girls said, "A fire-type beating a Water-type. That was epic!"

There was not a pond in the park earlier, but suddenly there was, courtesy of Dream. They pulled out a fishing rod from nowhere and did a neat little cast.

The line went down...

and down...

and down...
and finally stopped.

Ghost couldn't stand to see the Pokemon in such a state of pain and exhaustion. She slid out from underneath Bagon and ran over to the battle area. "Are you okay?" she asked Squirtle, stroking it gently. As she did so, she felt a tingling sensation in her hand, and a few seconds later, Squirtle seemed to be full of energy again.

Ghost jumped back in surprise. "Whoa," she said, "I didn't know I could do that." She looked over at Charmander. "Well, in that case... Come here, Charmander, let me do you, too."

She touched Charmander, with similar results.

Dream reeled in the line with an expert flick of the wrist. On the end of the line was a boot.
Not again.
Dream waved a hand dismissively and the boot vanished.

"Holy Miltank, girl," Rose exclaimed out of surprise when Ghost did a heal touch on her Squirtle. Actually, I'm pretty surprised myself that she was able to do that to my Charmander, too. "How in the world did you do that?! You've healed up my Squirtle!" Then she ecstatically turned to her Squirtle, cradled it some more, saying, "Is my wittle Squiwtle, awight? Is my bewuvved Pokémon awight?"

"Squirtle!", Squirtle gleefully responded as it cuddled with Rose back.

"How are you doing, Charmander?" I asked.

"Char!", my Charmander responded, in way that says Great!

Then my Shedinja flew over to Charmander, and said in Pokémon language that meant You were awesome! We should make a good team!

That was then Rose's Ninjask flew over to her and Squirtle, and complemented them in the same manner.

I then walked over to Ghost, asking, "How the heck did you do that, healing our Pokémon with only a touch? That....that was really kind of you to do that."

"I... don't really know." Ghost admitted, looking away, embarrassed at all the attention, "It just kind of... happened. Probably an effect of the experiments performed on me, I guess." She paused to consider as Nihilego drifted over to her side. "It felt kind of like some kind of energy was flowing through me from somewhere, into the Pokemon. Maybe it's the same sort of energy that allows Pokemon to open Ultra Wormholes, but I'm putting it to a different use." She shrugged. "But that's really just a guess."

Meanwhile, Bagon approached the pond Dream had caused to appear, curiously peering over the edge into the water.

The line was suddenly yanked and jerked around as if whatever was on the other end was not at all happy about it, but Dream reeled it in as if such a thing was an every day occurrence.

A furious Gyarados burst out of the pond, and reared to its full height of over 20 feet, sending a huge quantity of water around like a tiny tidal wave.

Fascinating. Dream did not seem to mind being completely soaked, and gazed up at the Gyarados as one might look at a mildly interesting museum exhibit.

"...Is that a Gyarados?", Professor Oak asked, fascinated. "And where did that pond even come from?"

"Woah, a Gyarados? Awesome!", Rose and the other two girls said.

"Cool," I said casually, though I'm a bit surprised to see Gyarados myself.

And my Shedinja and Charmander, and Rose's Ninjask and Squirtle all exclaimed out of surprisement.

After about a couple of seconds, the girl with blueish hair walked up to Professor Oak, and said, "Um, excuse me, but are you Professor Oak?"

"Oh?", the professor responded, "And who might you be?"

"My name is Jamie," the girl replied, "Me and my friends were walking to the park here, and came across the Pokémon Battle you guys were having just now. We got really interested, and thought that the battle was pretty cool. And....well...I'm not sure how to say this, but....I like to have a Pokémon of my own, sooo….", Jamie started to get uncomfortable.

"Oh, I see," Professor Oak said, "You want me to give you a Pokémon. Any particular reason?"

"Well, I was thinking about going on an adventure myself. My friends and family think that's a wonderful idea, but I'm not exactly sure."

"But it is!", the professor said, "When you go out on a Pokémon adventure, you get to visit new places, discover new Pokémon and other things, meet new people, and make new friends. Well, I think you're in luck, Jamie; I happen to give these two their Pokémon I just gave them, namely Squirtle and Charmander, and helped them tutor a bit when they were having their first battle together. But, I only have this Pokémon left..."

Then the professor opened up his briefcase, took out one last Pokeball out of it, and out came from it was Bulbasaur.

"This is the only Pokémon I am carrying it with me. Would you like to have it?"

"Bulba! Bulbasaur!", Bulbasaur said in a mixture of excitement and curiosity, when it's about to be given to Jamie.

"Hmmm," Jamie studied at Bulbasaur for about a couple of seconds. Then Jamie smirked, seeing how adorable and interesting Bulbasaur is. "Sure, I like to have it."

"Bulbasaur!", Bulbasaur said ecstatically, and ran up to Jamie and gave her a really close cuddle.

"Awwww," Jamie responded affectionately.

[They'd certainly have a different reaction if Dream had hooked Kyogre. ]

Dream resorted to cutting the line, and when it seemed like the Gyarados was about to go on a rampage, Dream simply stared at it for a few moments. The Gyarados dived back into the pond as fast as it could, sending up an even bigger cascade.
Dream walked up to Prf. Oak, and, apparently deciding that he might be able to answer the question more adequately than anyone else, asked, Are such beings common in this world?

After about several seconds of cuddling, Jamie and her new Bulbasaur then got up and walked over to where me and Rose are, still staring in awe at the Gyarados in the pond, and said, "Hi, I'm Jamie. And these are my friends there, Georgia and Virginia," Jamie pointed to the two girls who are also watching Gyarados in awe. "We've watched you guys battle, and we all thought--well, at least I thought--you two were amazing."

"Why, thank you Jamie," I responded, "I'm Daniel, but most of my folks call me Dan or Danny. And these are my Pokémon, Shedinja and Charmander."

Both my Shedinja and Charmander greeted Jamie in delight.

"And this is my cousin, Rose Mary," I pointed at Rose.

"Just call me 'Rose'," Rose said, with a hint of annoyance in her voice. Then she said more calmly, "And this is my Pokémon, Ninjask and Squirtle."

Both her Ninjask and Squirtle greeted to Jamie.

Then Professor Oak came up to me, Rose, and Jamie, and said, "Well, since you've all have your Pokémon, I'm each going to give you five sets of Pokeballs." Then the professor gave us 5 sets of Pokeballs. Why he got so many extras, I have no idea, but I guess it's a pretty good idea to be prepared, I guess.

"Would you like me to teach you how to catch a Pokémon?", Professor Oak asked, pointing at Gyarados in the pond.

I looked at my Shedinja and Rose's Ninjask, and looked at Jamie, who only has a Bulbasaur, and said, "Um, I think we'll watch. We got our own pair of Pokémon, so I think it's fair if Jamie here has her own pair." Then I turned to Jamie, and asked, "Well, what do you say Jamie?"

"Sure!", Jamie responded excitably. Then Jamie and her Bulbasaur walked over to where Gyarados is, and prepares to fight and capture it. "Bulbasaur, let's go!", Jamie said.

"Bulba!", Bulbasaur said, getting pumped up to fight against Gyarados.

(To be continued)
