"Yeah, but why into my ship?"

"I don't know really. Anyway, we might as well tag along. Where are you going?"

Locke had never heard of the bridge of Shera, but he decided to trust the man's advice.

"What's your name by the way"

When Locke heard the name he swore it felt familiar. Yet this was a different Cid to the one he knew.

At that moment, Cid headed to the upper deck to see what was going on.

((Oi, no powerplaying, or I'll quit!))

Cid was a little puzzled by the expression on the thief's face after he heard his name.

Come to think of it, wasn't there a slight bemusement with that girl Quistis' voice when I told her my name? It's not that uncommon a name, right?

"Well, stick around 'treaure hunter'" (Cid lacing the term with a lot of sarcasm) " because we're heading to Midgar."

He quickly went over to comms. "Garden, this is Cid. Sorry I couldn't respond personally. We've picked up a couple of hitch-hikers, called Locke and Terra. They seem more or less harmless enough, but I'm keeping an eye on them. We're flying to Midgar, and doing a brief scan to make sure that the thing I told you about is still there. Cid out."

With that, the Shera took off for Midgar, with the Garden following.

"This is Zell! All able students report to the bridge, I repeat, all able students report the bridge!" Zell commanded, hoping that there were some others who didn't have the Geostigma.

Zell wondered what the Geostigma was. Hopefully it wasn't too bad.

"This is Trabia Garden! Come in Balamb!" he heard over the comm.

Hope soared through Zell's inner being.

"This is Balamb, most of my crew are sick with Geostigma, kind of this grey stuff over some of the limbs, been exposed to it after defeating a Summon, over." Zell rushed his words.

"Sounds like what we have." he heard.

"Following someone who knows a cure, I'll ask him for the co-ordinates and meet you there." Zell said.

"Hey Cid, we found another Garden, can you post us the co-ordinates of this Midgar so we can meet up with them? It looks like they have Geostigma too." Zell asked Cid.

"And if you like, we have a holding cell for any troublemakers." He added, trying to sound tough.

Cid considered it. Then spoke through the comms. "This is Cid." He then rattled off a series of co-ordinates. Then, just to make sure, "It's at the northwest of one of the continents, looks like a ruined city, has the remains of a big Mako cannon on it, and has two layers. Savvy?"

Layers?? Thought Zell.

"No problem. Over and out." Zell hung up, and sent the co-ordinates to Trabia.

Then his head went all fuzzy.

"No. NO NO NO!" he thought.

"Ellone..." Laguna sobbed.

"You did what you could to save her." Kiros put his hand on his friend's shoulder.

Ward shook his head, and took the little girl's body away.

(I thought since everything else got mucked up, the past would have too...I think it makes it interesting.)

Reeve picked himself off the floor. This was getting to be a habit, especially after Deepground's repeated assaults on the place before the WRO took the fight to Shinra. As he got up, he noticed Shelke Rui, the resident computer expert of the WRO (a position that she had replaced her now dead sister in). Shelke looked like a ten-year old kid, but was, in reality, nineteen. It was due to the grotesque experimentation Deepground did to her, and although the fears that withdrawal from Mako might provoke cellular collapse were unfounded, she was no longer a strong combatant. However, she retained the ability to perform Synaptic Net Dives, or projecting her consciousness into computer networks. She now acted fairly normally, although this was, in part, due to the integration of Dr Lucrecia Crescent's personality and memory.

Shelke wasn't performing an SND at the moment, instead tapping furiously at a computer, while some of the WRO personnel helped her, or tended to the wounded.

Shelke turned around. "Reeve Tuesti, you are now awake."

Reeve was still bemused at the blunt nature of Shelke, but he had to know. "How long was I out for?"

"An hour."

Reeve wandered over to the console, his face grim. "What happened?"

"Extradimensional integration." explained Shelke. "Something happened, and now, well, see for yourself."

Reeve was still amazed at her deadpan, almost monotonous voice, but she was still a good scientist. Her sister was the best scientist for the WRO, but Azul the Cerulean's vicious attack while Shalua Rui tried to save Shelke put her in a coma she never woke up from. Deepground made sure of that by shooting down the Shera (which had since been repaired) and causing Shalua's life-support tank to rupture. When Reeve told Shelke the news, it was the first time he saw the girl show any appropriate emotion.

Reeve looked at the plans. Now it was really strange. WRO headquarters seemed to be mostly gone. In its place was a large, circular building.

"What is that?"

"It is a 'Garden', a mobile fortress converted into a mercenary training school and orphanage. I have been questioning their leaders, and apparently they come from another world."

"Another world?" Reeve thought back to 'extradimensional integration', a theoretical occurence speculated by some of Shinra's scientists, albeit as science fiction rather than serious theory. "You mean, our world has meshed with another?"

"Yes. That was called 'Galbadia Garden'. There are apparently two others, Trabia and Balamb."

"What's the status of our communications equipment?"

One of the WRO aides spoke up. "We're nearly finished, sir. The dimensional integration, or whatever it was, really screwed up our equipment. It's like the EMP you get from a nuclear bomb or a powerful blast of Mako. We'll be finished in a few minutes, though."

Anticipating Reeve's next question, Shelke started. "The last we heard from Cid and the Shera was on the western continent, where Wutai is situated. Cloud, Tifa and Barret were on an oil-drilling expedition in the desert near the Golden Saucer. Yuffie and Vincent were helping Red XIII in the jungles of Gongaga, investigating some new Materia that they found."

A robotic toy cat leapt onto Reeve's shoulder. "And don't forget, I'm still alive, wee lassie." remarked Cait Sith.

"Well, I want to try and contact Cid as soon as possible. He may be able to rescue the others, not to mention rescue any other survivors from this interdimensional occurence." Reeve looked at the functioning surveillance monitors. "Have those residents of the Galbadian Garden given you any trouble?"

"No sir."

"If they need food, water, or medical attention, then help them as much as possible. We may need them as allies."

"Allies? Against what?"

"In this world, we've only dealt with beings like Sephiroth, Jenova, and the Deepground soldiers. They may have faced very different enemies who may well be even more powerful."

"Urgh....." Zell shook his head as he came out of his dream state. "Huh?"

He was getting a signal from another planet...from Galbadia Garden!

"This is Balamb Garden! Please respond!" Zell yelled. No answer, the signal died.

"Oh man oh man oh man. What was it that the instructor said in Leadership Class? Right. Heal us and Trabia first, THEN go help Galbadia when we can." Zell panicked for a brief second.

Then the Galbadia signal returned...

"Why'd they change the frequency for?" Zell wondered out aloud.

"Hello, this is Balamb Garden! Please respond!" he tried again.

Being a leader was hard work.

"This is WRO Headquarters. We are currently integrated with Galbadia Garden." said Shelke through the first comms channel. As she began to talk, Reeve found the channel for the Shera, and contacted Cid. The comms unit was still touchy, but Now a picture showed.

***

"Whoa, Reeve! Don't %$#@ing scare me like that! Where the %$#@ were you all that time?"

"My apologies, Cid. But our comms equipment was damaged during this dimensional integration."

"What? You know about that too?"

Reeve filled him in, about Galbadia Garden and the WRO merging.

"That's some pretty %$#@ed up $#!t, Reeve. Listen, we came across Balamb Garden, and most of the kids there are suffering from Geostigma."

"That's impossible!"

"They fought off Typhon, and I used the Shera's Mako cannons. Problem is, the summon was infected with Jenova cells."

"...Cid, you do know what you are saying? These people are not from our world, and there is no way they could have been infected with Jenova cells during Meteorfall."

"I sure as hell do, Reeve. I dunno for sure, but Sephiroth's back. I also picked up a couple of hitch-hikers. These two are from another world, apparently seperate to the Garden kids. One's a thief called Locke. The other's some girl who looks like Aeris, called Terra."

"...I see. Where are you heading now?"

"Midgar. I need to get to the church and heal those people."

Zell piloted the Garden along, looking around for any signs of life. He wondered if Matron, Edea, and Headmaster Cid had survived.

Zell sighed inwardly. He'd never been a favourite of anyone. While Irvine and Selphie got along, Quistis and Seifer disagreed, Squall and Ellone had each other, Seifer and Squall fought, Quistis and Edea went for walks, Ellone and Selphie did things together, Edea disciplined Seifer, Quistis and Squall...Zell had to resort to being louder and prouder just to be seen. Or so he felt.

***

Quistis sighed in her sleep. She could feel poison seep through her, bringing nightmares, fevers and headaches.

And a voice. A cold, deep, compassionate voice.

"It's not the dreams, it's not the dreams...they never sounded like this..." she mumbled to herself. She looked towards Squall. She wished she could remember more of their past together, and end this confusion. Did she or did she not?

***

Zell looked around.

"Hey...is that...BALAMB! But what is THAT?" he looked at the big city right next to Balamb, the city with the huge gun sticking out. "Is that Midgar? How cool is that?"

He called up the comm to the Infirmary.

"The town of Balamb is okay! My mum and dad are okay!" he whooped.

Cid heard Zell's shouts over the comms link. Sure enough, there was what looked like a fishing village on the shores northwest of Midgar.

"Save it, kid. We need to help your sick friends. This stuff not only cures Geostigma, but also lends immunity, so you might have to take a dip yourself. And we have to be careful. Midgar is infested with monsters at night."

He manouvered the Shera over the church. He remembered what Cloud had said, about meeting Aeris there. Cid himself had sensed Aeris' presence when he had led all those kids suffering from Geostigma there, to the pool which, Cloud claimed (and Cid believed) Aeris had generated to cure Cloud's Geostigma.

He checked the scanners. There were a few monsters around, but nothing that dangerous.

"Zell, wake yer friends, and get ready to get down. Use an emergency ladder or something to get down to the city. We'll keep the Shera ready, in case we need to make a quick getaway."

He then turned to the two WRO officers who had accompanied him to meet Squall and the others in the first place. "You two, follow me. And keep it together!"

Zell stood back a bit, and tried to settle his breathing down.

"Cid, we have some students who don't have Geostigma, I'm sending a party out first to secure the area. Then we'll send out the sick. Work for you? Oh, and Trabia should be here soon." he said. He nodded to the students. "Let's move out. Get some of the not-so-sick and get them cured STAT! MOVE IT!" he barked.

"Oi, Chicken-Wuss, who died and made you boss?"

Zell jumped as Seifer made his way on the bridge.

"I'm NOT a Chicken-Wuss. And you're lucky we found you when we did!" Zell snapped. Seifer drew his gunblade and attacked Zell, leaving him wounded on the bridge.

"WHY." Fujin asked.

"Yeah boss, why'd you do that for?" Raijin chimed in.

"Because WE'RE going to control this CURE and use it to control the worlds!" Seifer grinned.

"SMART." Fujin said.

"Yeah! That's great thinkin', ya know." Raijin agreed.

"I, Seifer, am taking over. Stop Cid from reaching the cure, and take them prisoners!" Seifer commanded over the PA.

"Oh no, we have to stop him!" Squall tried to jump from his bed, only to be stopped by the Garden Faculties.

"Seifer has ordered that no one leave the Infirmary." they grinned.

It must've been a serendipitous thing, like a malfunction at Garden's comms, but Cid heard it all. "Okay troops. Anyone we can spare, come with me. Oh, and you teo..." he said to Locke and Terra. "Couldja please come with us? Seifer sounds like a handful."

As the WRO soldiers started moving out, Cid went to the comms panel. "Cid to Reeve. Balamb Garden has been taken over by a mutiny. The known ringleader is Seifer. He may have some of his allies ready to get us. Get a %$#@ing hold of everyone. Try to get them sent to Midgar."

Cid rushed for the exit to the Shera, spear in hand. As he did, he opened the emergency Materia stores. It only had a few Materia, but there was something that even Yuffie didn't know Cid had.

He pulled the red Materia out and pocketed it. He smiled. Let Seifer and his goons deal with THIS.

"I don't know what THIS is, but it don't sound good ya'know?" Raijin turned off the comm.

"DANGER." Fujin said.

"Pah. We can deal with it. How dare he listen in to our conversations though, how rude!" Seifer sighed.

"DANGER!" Fujin said again.

"You TOLD me that!" Seifer snapped.

"Boss, behind you!" Raijin cried.

SMACK. One swift punch from Zell sent Seifer flying into his comrades.

"Cid, it's Zell, we have a mutiny, can you get past the guards here and get the injured out? I have someone to deal with." he said into the comm.

He turned to Seifer, while Raijin and Fujin fled.

"Let's take this outside, shall we?" Zell grinned.

"Chicken-Wuss! Look at you, holding your arm like that. You're pathetic." Seiferleapt from the bridge window to the ground outside. Zell followed.

"I should have you finished in no time!" Seifer laughed.

"Oh really?" Zell snapped angrily.

They began to fight, Seifer barely hanging on to the upper hand.

After stepping into Midgar, Locke's first impressions were that it was like no other city he had seen. But this was no time for sightseeing as they had a task at hand. Zell was already fighting Seifer, so Locke and Terra joined him to help.

(Cue an amalgamation of FFVI, FFVII and FFVIII battle music)

Cid whacked aside the Garden Faculty members rushing him, and impaled a few monsters standing in his way. Then he came across two others: a dark-skinned young man wielding a staff, and a blue-clad young woman with an eyepatch and a glowering expression. These must be Seifer's lackeys, thought Cid.

"INEVITABLE." said the woman. It wasn't exactly a shout, rather than a single statement that all but shouted.

"Yeah, we're gonna beat you, old man, ya know?" said the man.

Cid smiled. "Try me, ya pair of young whelps."

The woman threw a blade-edged chakram. Nice try missy, but I've trained with Yuffie, and she throws better than you, even if she gets airsick, thought Cid, and he jumped out of the way. He was slammed in the head by the guy's staff, and collapsed.

"Yeah, we win, ya know!"

"IDIOT, RAIJIN!" snarled the woman. Cid got up. His head was sore, but now he was really pissed off. And that could only mean one thing.

"LIMIT BREAK: DRAGON DIVE!" yelled Cid, as he leapt into the air and divebombed Raijin and the woman repeatedly, causing blasts of energy to fountain into the air. Raijin collapsed, unconscious. The woman was still standing.

"IMPRESSIVE." she said.
