Brasil Island.
Nothing to do with the country of Brazil. It was an island that was said to exist in the Atlantic somewhere west of Ireland. It was said to be always cloaked in mist and in fog, and only appeared once every seven years.
It appears on maps in the 1300s. And despite no one ever finding the place it stayed on maps for centuries. In the 19th Century it shrank on maps down to something called "Brasil Rock", before it finally vanished from maps in 1865.
