I had to look that up. For a moment I was worried, then I realised you are not like the Krab (or even Theta on one of his more evil days) and wouldn't make me look at horrid things.

For anyone who doesn't know: Image

I appreciate the kind sentiment, dear sylkat, but I suspect the poor Ili pika would not be appreciative of being packed in a cardboard box and shipped on a long haul journey. He would probably like the peace and quiet once he got here though. Although my dog would probably think he was a strange bunny rabbit and chase him.

BTW, are you still working on your conlang? You seem to be interested in different grammatical constructions a lot. The Hebrew ones you gave were really interesting. :)

well...special interest. :P

thanks! and Hebrew does have another way of marking posession, on the item itself rather than a separate word, i find it more challenging since they include, basically what i mentioned ^, plus modified versions for plurality.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffixes_in_Hebrew (under pronominal suffixes)

and yes, i'm still working on my language - in fact i probably got more done within the last two weeks than the last two months! verbs and related aspects are a real pain, plus miscellaneous things like topicalization that i choose to deal with... or not.

I don't. Not at all.

I do miss the old times with the gang all around though. It's quiet here these days.

On the bright side I seem to be able to post okay, after many months of issues. I still get the same problem when I try to quote though, so not doing that.

Kip, thank you the Hebrew update! I like knowing how to say important stuff.

It always baffled me that Hebrew has different grammar for boys and girls.

Can anyone help me out with the sentence I LOVE TURTLES in different languages?

Kip, is
Ani ohevet tzavim
correct?

Kip, turtles were allowed until 1976, then they were banned. At the time they claimed it was because a turtle couldn't thrive here due to the climate and people couldn't take care of them right. But since the 90's at least, vitamins and UV light for reptiles have been available in some of the bigger pet stores, yet the ban remains. Now they're blaming it on possibility of contracting salmonella, which was never part of the reason, and easy to avoid with good hygiene.
Sweden (and maybe Denmark, not sure about that one) had the same laws, but had to change them when they joined the European Union, which is why I'm pro-EU.

Sometimes people can get licence to own a turtle here, but it's hard and you have to be lucky, kinda like to win the lottery, and even if you get it, you still need to go to Sweden to get one, and the seller in Sweden needs to be allowed to sell the turtle to a Norwegian, and you might need permit to get it into the country too (not sure). So much red tape BS
Apparently, if you have a piece of paper, you can take care of the turtle well and avoid salmonella.

Moomin, I'm sorry you have had so much trouble posting here! That sucks! There have been a lot of glitches, and I hope they will be sorted out soon. I hope you'll be able to post more easily now, it seems you had more success today; that's good! Staying hopeful...
I've missed seeing you around.

Thanks Skilpadde, that means a lot. :)

I've had no issues at all posting in the last two days (except for when I tried to quote, and it did its usual error), so let's hope things are being sorted out finally.

That's a nightmare about turtles over there. I hate bureaucracy.

I can help you with 'I love turtles' in three languages:

ITALIAN: Amo le tartarughe

FINNISH: Rakastan kilpikonnia

FRENCH: J'adore les tortues

Norwegian is due to be released on Duolingo in the next couple of weeks. I found another program that had a trial lesson per day for Norwegian, and it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately I don't really have time for another language, without taking away from the ones I am already trying to learn. Maybe when my Italian hits a reasonably fluent level I will be able to do it. Or maybe I'll try to be a bit more organised and spend less time staring vaguely into space (or the internet).

You're back! And the site's behaving better for you! That is great news!

I've been keeping super-busy, but with everyone all back together again, you will see plenty of me around here. :) It's a very natural place to banter!

Don't be a stranger Mooms! Hope to know which games you'll be wanting to play the most too! :D

Theta!! !! My big little brother! :D How are you? :D

Yes, I'm back. Suddenly posting seems to be working again. I'll try to spend a bit more time here, although I have been very busy with my languages. I've started studying French as well, and I am being seriously tempted by Norwegian. Occasionally I have to fit in a real life as well. ;)

I keep meaning to message you but, to be perfectly honest, I've just been rubbish. Great to see you again. :D

(I may spontaneously disappear though, as it's stormy here and we are prone to power outages).

I'm relieved it matters. It would be sad for me if it didn't, because you are one of the people I like best here.

I'm very glad to hear you haven't had problems posting now! Fingers crossed for it continuing!

Yeah, it really is a nightmare. And most of all for the innocent turtles that are taken here illegally without having a say in it. I hate bureaucracy too. Or maybe bureaucrazy is a better term.

Thanks for helping me out with those important sentences in three languages!

I had no idea it would be adore in French, rather than aime.

By the way, there are several ways of saying it in Norwegian:
Jeg liker skilpadder (I like turtles)
Jeg elsker skilpadder (I love turtles)
Jeg er glad i skilpadder (I am fond of turtles).

Like would be the most common, I guess, but for me only love will do, just like I'm sure only love will do for you, Moomingirl, when it comes to dogs.

Glad you had fun with trying out Norwegian. I wouldn't recommend taking on too much at once, really. It's better to take the time needed and two languages sounds like enough. Or maybe that's just me.

Sounds you're as skilled as me at procrastinating! 8) I'm good at staring vaguely into space too.

Hope you had a good day Skilpadde. Its been a real winter day here with rain most of the day and it's still cold outside: wanted to go for a run but got lazy when I felt the cold wind. Maybe I'll go out tomorrow instead, as it's so nice to run.

So I've been playing Scrabble online this afternoon instead.

Thanks, yes, I've had a good (but going fast) day. :)

It's been sunny and windy, so not too warm. The snow is pretty much gone here in the south now, and all roads are snow-free. Yesterday we saw hail here though.

Hopefully you can go for a run tomorrow.

Hey again Skilpadde,

You're one of my favourite people here too. :)

I still can't quote, so I'll just have to refer back to your post.

I am by no means fluent in French, I am just learning. But what I have been taught is that 'aime' is only for loving people. For non-people it just means 'like'. I have been taught to use 'adore' for loving anything not human. Maybe someone who knows French better would be able to clarify if I have got that right.

You're right though, only love, adore, am crazy about, would be appropriate to describe how I feel about dogs.

Enviro - it sounds like the cold weather is starting to set in for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, while our friends in the North are starting to warm up slowly. It's not too bad here yet, but I'm certainly having to pick my time to go outside and not get rained on, and my warm slippers have been pulled out of storage now.

I hope all my WP friends are okay. I haven't seen Sylkat around for a while....

If Moomingirl has a securely fenced yard, we should send her a Dik-Dik.

Or a herd of them.

We will send them by boat, so that they won't have to be in crates......they can spend the voyage scampering about the deck.

Dear Sylkat, would you like to be sent a Serval cub / kitten? I suspect you'd like one...

I agree about the Dik-Diks. She would love them.

I'm so sorry you can't see the image; it shows clearly on the page my side... is this a WP glitch?

Let me know if I need to try and PM it to you or something; would that work?

EZ.
