rampal. I have a CD of him playing Asian melodies with lily laskine, that is sublime. anyways, prefer his style of playing to the otherwise estimable galway.

Hammerstein, he had a social conscience. and I must say that Marsalis, as good as he is, cannot hold a candle to the other fella when playing "carnival of venice"-

his fluency with his horn cannot be denied.

never watched either but in theory I'd go for happy days. lavoine and shoiley seemed too "whiny" to me, northern mid-westerners that sounded more like noo yawk.

gosh, if I had only known about Gerard Hoffnung earlier :o such a pity - a man so ahead of his time - that his life was so cruelly cut so short. otherwise he would be at least as well known as pete schickele. I cannot choose between them as both tickled me.
