Thanks Skilpadde, those are beautiful. There is something about old, abandoned places that I just love.

You too? Wow, I really like abandoned places too. I’m not actively doing so-called urban exploring, but I love watching pics and vids of ghost towns and abandoned buildings. I like the movie Chernobyl Diaries a lot, and one of the main reasons is the view of Pripyat. (Yeah, I know it’s not really from Pripyat, but an abandoned town apparently in Serbia.) I’d so like to go to a place like that someday.

Don't worry, I didn't think you were nagging about Krabo. I miss him too. But I don't want him to think that I am bothering him. I'll let you know whenever I have any news. :)

I’m relieved you didn’t think so. I totally get the not bothering part; while it’s fine to mention to him that he’s missed and welcome, it’s not fine that he feel pressured to come back. He knows where we are, so he must choose for himself. I just worry when he’s away for a long time. I would have worried about you too if Enviro hadn’t told us it was due to the glitches here, although my first thought was that you were busy enjoying your languages. Boy, do I know how time flies when one is enjoying one’s special interests!
Thanks! I appreciate it getting Krabo updates when you have them :)

Ugh, typing is hard, I have my Finnish keyboard loaded. It nearly looked like this: Saööö digfeent.

I have the extra letters ä and ö, plus å (presumably in case I spontaneously break into Swedish :P

 So have you spontaneously broken into Swedish yet? :P It must be hard to resist the temptation!

Moomingirl wrote:
By the way Skilpadde, do you use Å in Norwegian?

Yes, we use Å in Norwegian. It’s the last letter of our alphabet. The two letters before it are Æ and Ø. Those are the only special letters we have.

Hi Skilpadde, re yesterday I didn't think you'd gotten up so early to actually take the photos,I knew you used pics from a while back, but was just surprised to see you actually online and posting so early as you're in the same time zone as us and I get up early to utilize some night shift data.

I have to confess the Norwegian alphabet sounds "back to front". :)

I've seen pics of abandoned tube stations online that would be quite eerie to visit as they're underground. At the moment, I can't recall where they are though.

Oh, I see. I got it wrong then. I thought you thought so seeing how you seem to early up and them quite a bit.
I wasn't up early actually. I was up late. My sleep schedule is all over the place, and after a rather long time being on regular schedule (on par with my surroundings) I am now back to sleeping in the daytime.
While early morning here, it is now evening according to my schedule.
Sigh.

It kinda is, yes. In addition, the last letter, å, can also be written aa (even though regarded as old-fashioned now). So for instance, the boys name Åge can also be written Aage.

Eerie, but exciting.... Maybe it was in London? I know London has a lot of closed stations and tracks that aren't in use anymore.
Subterranean settings make for an eerie atmosphere. The horror movie 'Creep' took place in the London underground.

Check this out Skilpadde:

Number 18 might be the one enviro is talking about. :)

Enviro, ä and ö come at the end of the Finnish alphabet too. I still get confused sometimes when I am looking up words with those letters in.

Oh wow, thanks for that link; so many awesome pics!! Hmm... yes, that could be the station Enviro talked about. So many wonderful, exciting places like that!

Here's a link to images of the closed Valkyrie station in Oslo. It was closed in 1985, but I can't remember it at all. I've only gone past it on the tube.

Edit: I also just found this video of Oslo ghost stations

A video of ghost towns in the Nordic countries (not Scandinavia, as the title claims, grrr...)

Sylkat, thank you for Non Plus Ultra castle, that was amazing!

I need to go out shortly, so I'll find you some more abandoned pictures later.

In the meantime, when I went to Rarotonga last year we checked out this place:

The hotel complex was almost built but then they went bust. It was amazing wandering around it. If you want to read more google Sheraton Rarotonga.

Skilpadde, looking forward to checking out your video when I get back. :)

And here are some pictures of Castle Miranda, also known as Chateau Noisy:

There was an offer to take it over by the local council, but the family who owned it have refused. It is scheduled for demolition this year, according to the site I was reading. :(

Demolitions?

Seriously?

What is WRONG with people?

We need more haunted castles, not less....

I know Sylkat, I know.

I saw one project that was turning an old abandoned shopping mall into apartments for the homeless. I thought it was an excellent idea.

This is beautiful....

How did I miss this post? Yes, what's wrong with people!? These great buildings should be attractions, not something to demolish :(

These exciting places add such character. I wish there was a place like that nearby....

Here are more great pics in these links
