Oh, yessssss....

The film had some good points, but the book was GOOD!

And, regarding the film;

For perhaps the only time in his career, George C. Scott was miscast.

So glad Krabo is back....would he not look right at home in the dank, dark ruins of Nan Madol?

Skilpadde, why the baseball field picture in the midst of delightful and mysterious Nan Madol.......really like that

name, it sounds like a chant to something eldritch that lurks in forgotten cities, plotting Something Really Bad.

Had to google Nan Madol. Er... it doesn't look too inviting. Something ominous amidst the rocky ruins. Obviously haunted.

None of the available pictures shows a crab there, however. If you look carefully, you can discern a dormouse in one of the holes.

Baseball field? :? It's all Nan Madol.
Sigh. Just the name itself is foreboding and dark. Nan Madol...

Yes, that's why it's so alluring. :D

Sylkat, you've already been there? 8O You must tell us all about it then!
There's a lot of ocean there, I'm sure there are crabs there. Considering the place, they might be ghost crabs...

I can't be bothered to work out the time differences, since it never shows properly on here, but an hour ago was getting up time. I've been getting later and later the last few months.

No cows to milk though, we have beef animals. It's getting frightening close to the time of year when I have to start feeding out though.

@ Sylkat. I've never seen the movie, but of course I've read the book.

You've read Fire Starter, Moomin? I thought you didn't like horror?
It's probably my fave genre, but the Fire Starter movie was nothing more than okay. Pet Sematary, The Shining and Silver Bullet are my fave movie adaptations of King's books. There are many good ones though.

Another interesting place I'd never heard of until today, and no-one seems to really know who built it and when...

I just read the history of the grotto now. Imagine how exciting it would be to find a place like that. And to think no one knew about it.. Makes me wonder how many other places like that are hidden in plain view... Thanks for the link, Enviro 8)

A pleasure. There's always something interesting around the next corner to be discovered; I learn something new every day and that's one of the reasons life can be great.

It is in Kent and I'm pretty sure it was built by the Danes. Interesting link, thank you Enviro. I'll have a closer look at it tonight.

Tha's very cool enviro.

Here is NZ's version - the Paua Shell house. I think the lady who did it has died now, there was some talk about selling it but I'm not sure what happened.

I read a lot of horror when I was a teenager. Firestarter and Needful Things were particular favourites. And Clive Cussler (I think, does that sound right?)Then I worked out that it messed with my head, which doesn't really need any more messing up than it already has. Now I try to stick to happy things. I have to admit I am a lot less depressed and crazy than I used to be. I can't say whether or not that is related to my reading, but I'm kind of scared to go back there. :|

This is exactly what I do, too. The same goes with the internet. I tend to search for happier stories than before. - Nice shell house, but not one where I'd like to sleep. The Paua shells would start to resemble faces.

^ Yes, I already have enough nightmares without giving myself more ideas. It's so easy for me to give in to the darkness, but honestly, I got sick of being depressed and scared all the time. Now I try to find happy things, even if cheery and happy is not my natural state.

I couldn't stay in that house either. Too much clutter has my brain working overtime trying to process everything it sees, and I wouldn't be able to relax.

Hmm, maybe I should try fully staying away from negative things that mess with me too. I don't go looking for gratuitously-messed up stuff really, and I've really never liked to watch horror films or read the books, but I do have some morbid curiosity and a sense of black humor some of the time, as I'm sure you can remember. :P

One thing that I'm passionate about is inherently a little depressing, yet I feel like it's worth being involved in, and it needs people to work on it, so not sure what to do about that. I can't really consider leaving it actually. Maybe if I make that my one thing that dabbles in the negative, I'd be fine.

I can relate to scary movies and various other kinds messing with me a little. They wouldn't really confuse me or anything, but they'd leave me feeling really weird and uncomfortable. I called that "getting under my skin". I now think that effect that movies had on me was Aspie-related. Performing arts can do that to me for some reason--it has a direct line of access deep into my psyche. And something in my mind will not allow me to act or perform or pretend myself.

There was a period, in fact not many years ago, that I was interested in, or more like obsessed about, hemicorporectomy. I thought (still do) it is one of the weirdest medical conditions anyone can have. Then I came across the warm-hearted Mr. Peng Shulin and his amazing survival story. Little by little, my obsession diminished. Then I found Nick Vujicic and became obsessed about severe birth defects. Again, little by little, this obsession went away and now I take Mr. Vujicic as an inspirational speaker who has a lot to say about equality and toleration.

These two men are modern wonders.

Damn, and I think life is hard for us sometimes. Imagine having no limbs. Amazing that anyone can have a positive attitude living like that. Good on them, they are better people than me.
