I can see no obscure fact in your saying 'Aaaaagh!'

Subatomic particles have some strange names. Literally, there is a strange quark.

Also, there is a common belief that it is legal to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrowat midnight in Chester. It is probably because ther used to be a law that was never repealed.

Mountain Oysters, a delicacy in some American states, are not oysters.

Up, down, top, charm and bottom are the other "flavors".

'Bottom' is also the name of a fairy in Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer's Night's Dream'.

Quote:
Born in 1560 and dying in 1614, Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed was a countess from the renowned Báthory family of nobility in the Kingdom of Hungary. She has been labeled the most prolific female serial killer in history, although the number of murders is debated, and is remembered as the ?Blood Countess.? She was the infamous serial killer of Hungary. She used to kill peasant girls through severe beatings, burning, mutilation of body parts, chewing off the face etc. She was on house arrest and was not put to trial because of her status!

Actually, there was a trial, her three servants, who assisted in the torturing, were themselves tortured and had plenty to say., though, of course, she was not present.

They were executed.

The Countess, however, was walled up in her room (or suite of rooms) in the castle where she had caused such suffering to others.

Food was passed to her through a hole in the masonry.

One day, after years of this dark, solitary confinement, the food dish was not taken.

She had finally died.

I have not been able to find a picture or location of her grave.....I do not know if they simply left her body there and sealed the wall completely.

Considering the times, and the people, it would not surprise me.

And she was known to worship Satan, or at least to communicate with spirits or demons, and to cast spells or curses on people.

Quite a nasty little piece of work.

And she had two husbands.

(Somebody married that loon?!)

And she had four children.

Only one accurate portrait of her was known to exist, fortunately at least one copy was made, because it 'disappeared' in the 1960's.

It is 100 years since the death of Martha, the last Passenger Pigeon.

Mankind blasted them into extinction. You can read about it here.
