Mörkö is the original name for the Groke, a character from Tove Jansson's Moomin books. It's eerie and monster-like.

Yes, Skilpadde. I couldn't have expressed it more clearly myself.

It looks like that McDonald's character, Grimace.

Hello, Murihiku. Looks like the NZ chose to stick to the old flag.

Yeah, they did. There was a clear majority favouring the old flag over the new one in the lead-up to the referendum, although the final result was a lot closer than I expected: 56.73% supporting the old (current) flag, and 43.27% for the new design.

I didn't mind one way or the other, although if another referendum is held in the future I'll submit a new design of my own. When that might be is anyone's guess. I'd say after Queen Elizabeth II's reign ends, when the idea of New Zealand becoming a republic will probably start gaining a lot more support.

^ Prince Charles probably thinks that way. :P Even the former King of Spain abdicated so that his son wouldn't have to wait as long as Prince Charles has.

And yeah, my current avatar is adapted from a flag design that I never got to submit (I only came up with it well after the deadline). Ah well, maybe next time.

Yeah, I made a flag design mid-last year using Inkscape (although the fern I used for it was a Bezier trace from an image I found online). Then a few months afterwards I adapted the flag design to make my current avatar (conversion to squares, made the watermark designs).

I'll probably keep it for some time.

^ More mathematical than anything. I actually learned how to construct the Union Jack, which was interesting (I wonder if they make high school maths students do it in the UK). But then I modified it for my square avatar; I think I ended up using high school trigonometry and Cartesian coordinates for it. It's certainly been a while. :P

But speaking of becoming a republic ... I just read this morning that Jamaica is thinking of doing that very same thing. And it was announced by none other than their own Governor-General. How's that for talking yourself out of a job?
