Green chemistry class? Never heard of that one. What's that?
Something fun we did in chemistry was making what we call hockeypulver (hockey powder), which is a liquorice snack. That was a tasty experiment! We also made beautiful SO4 crystals.

The social situation was okay for me. I wasn't popular but I was left alone without anyone targeting me, which was all I wanted. I didn't like school though. So much was boring and uninteresting at best, and I was very unmotivated and fed up with wasting most of my days going there and exhausting myself over what felt like noting.

Good to see that you are enjoying it more than I did!

Vexillology is the scientific study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags or, by extension, any interest in flags in general. The word is a synthesis of the Latin word vexillum ("flag") and the Greek suffix -logia ("study.")

Ah, I see. We just had chemistry. In high school physics and chemistry were separated subjects because I went to vocational school. But in regular high school (and the school years before high school) chemistry, physics and biology were mixed together in a subject called naturfag (literally nature subject).

I have no idea if there is an equivalent of hockey powder (thus called due to it being in the form of powder and in small boxes that resembles a hockey puck). What we did was mix hydrochloric acid (HCl) and ammonia (NH3) in a beaker and stabilize it at pH 5 I think it was. Then we used a Bunsen burner on it until all that was left was salt (ammonium chloride, NH4Cl). We put the salt in a mortar and crushed it with pestle, then added a lot of icing sugar (the same amount in weight as the salt weighed) and carbon for coloring, and mixed them well. It’s a good snack.

Hockey powder is mentioned here, under the heading food: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonium_chloride#Food
You can see pics in this blog: http://lakrisbloggen.blogspot.no/2012/0 ... ulver.html

Good to hear you weren’t targeted either. Limerence isn’t all that unusual for teenagers. I know I had it bad for a guy when I was 14-17, and I know some of my classmates did at times too. Ever had to do a group work with someone who's infatuated? Groan....

^ I've heard about "vocational schools" (at high school level) in European countries. What are they like, and how are they different from normal high schools?

I did Physics, Chemistry and Biology back in senior high school. I would've done more science subjects, but that's all there was when I was a student. I've never heard of hockey powder, though. More English words that I'm learning from you. That "Food" section in Wikipedia mentioned salmiak: is "hockey powder" basically the salt in salmiakki? I'd try it if I could find some here. Just a question, as well: were you allowed to eat the powder when you made it in the lab at school? That would never have been allowed here.

And yeah, being really attracted to someone you're around most days – especially when you have to sit next to them – is downright annoying. Even more so when you're gay and he's straight.

That sounds like Sheldon Cooper's description for his Fun With Flags.

Murihiku's post above shows the Qatari flag, too. The only national flag in the world to have brownish color. The Maltese flag, on the other hand, is the only flag to contain some gray.

I guess brown is seen as rather a dull colour, as is grey. Actually it's a nice earthy colour and the Qatari flag reminds me of a wall hanging rather than a flag!

There should be more flags with purple. There's an underrated colour!

Actually, the "red" in the Latvian flag is closer to purple than red.
