False - and they were just relaxed this year to make it even easier for Americans to emigrate to Canada.

I've no blood relations in-country
I've various chronic illnesses
I've no $$$$ nor useful skills
criminal record

all those are mentioned in your nation's immigration regs.
during the last winter Olympics, up there, thousands of americans were turned away at the border for stuff like speeding tickets on their records. please tell me how those requirements or restrictions were loosened.

that changes nothing for the vast majority of yanks. the point system still stresses educational level, job experience in critical fields, multilingual gifts, squeaky-clean criminal/civil record. compared to costa rica, Canada is FAR tougher for the typical amuuurican to gain admittance to, much less live in. my point still stands, Canada has TOUGH restrictions on americans compared to other nations.

False. The vast majority of Americans are admissible to Canada.

As, quite literally, the single most desirable country in the world to emigrate to, why should Canada welcome Net liabilities in lieu of long term tax paying Assets to our citizenship team? :? Really, that's what it's all about. Countries are businesses like any other & criteria for "hiring" are based on fitness to work, earn, and pay over the long run. OF COURSE we don't want to welcome those who will be a Net Drain on Canadian taxpayers over those who would be Net Contributors to our country.*

*Although we do welcome some, especially aging relatives etc, however, we can only support so many who cannot support themselves. This is all no-brainer math stuff, really.

I suppose the first thing that popped into my head was "cold".

Aside from that, I generally think of them as the Commonwealth version of the US.
Not much different from us ... aside from their accents and the weather.

every Canadian I've met has been substantially different from the americans I know and have met. they are, in general, more liberal-minded and laid back about a wide range of touchy subjects that rile americans.
