'Greek Fire' was probably phosphorous.

The prehistoric Sthenurine Kangaroo, which died out 30,000 years ago, was too heavy to hop, and walked about in human fashion on its hind legs.

It also bore a strong resemblance to a rabbit.

Allegedly.

Those who believe that Loch Ness does have large reptilian (or amphibian) inhabitants tend to believe that their appearance is similar to the Elasmosaurus Plesiosaur.

Her son was imprisoned in a room with no light, no sanitation, fed by dishes passed through a slot through the door.

He eventually died of illness and neglect.

Dear Booyakasha, Google Louis VII, when you have some time.......much information, all of it sad; many, many versions of his tragic life and mysterious death....

'Historywiz' has some good info on the series of men who claimed to be him......there were even a couple of claimants in America!

John James Audobon, of the bird books fame, apparently believed himself to be the prince!

Oh, that's interesting! And yes, thanks, I unfortunately read a bit before what Robespierre and his companions did :(

You're referring to Dauphin of France, I guess? http://blog.hulettsonlakegeorge.com/ind ... hives/2132

It's really hard to stomach.

Good article, but the heart is not proven to be that of a son of Marie Antoinette's, but of a male relative......just sayin'.

There are also some lovely portraits of him on the Internet.......he was a very pretty child.

The crystal vase or jar the heart was kept in was on display and was deliberately smashed by anti-royalists in the 1800's.

The world's oldest continuously operating independent company was the Japanese construction company Kongo Gumi, which was founded in the year 578; it stayed that way until acquired by another company in 2006.

How sad that the tradition could not have continued.

Jet airplanes leave a white trail across the sky for the same reason that you can your own breath in wintertime.

When independent car companies Hudson and Nash merged in 1954 to create the American Motors Corporation, it was at the time the largest corporate merger in American history.

One bucket of water contains more atoms than there are buckets of water in all the oceans combined.

One version of Butch and Sundance's deaths is that a single scream was heard from the cabin/shack, a single gunshot was heard, a few minutes later, another one.....either hours later or next morning, the soldiers entered, and both men were dead, of single gunshots to their heads.....

Apparently, Butch shot Sundance, then himself.

But, of course, many other versions exist.

- In the British empire/Britain , a law was introduced early on against the pointless harming of domestic animals (like cows), even before the abolition of slavery.
- There was also a time in Britain (and other countries) you could trial/sue an animal!
- On youtube, there are videos containing the first intelligeble sound-recording, made by Thomas Edison in 1877. There is also footage of one from 1860, but that's just inintelligeble noise.
- The most expensive coffee in the world is made from faeces!.

Thomas Edison, though a confirmed atheist, searched for proof of life after death in the years before his own death.
